Job summary

Canada Life seeks an AVP & Senior Counsel, Litigation, reporting to the Vice-President & Associate General Counsel, Litigation and Employment. You will lead the Canadian Litigation and Employment team, providing practical legal representation and advice on disputes with a focus on life, health, and disability-related matters.

You will interact with senior management, shape strategy, and oversee external counsel while mentoring a high-performing team across business units.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice in Ontario or Manitoba.
• Bar membership in another province is an asset.
• 10+ years of relevant work experience.
• Leadership and coaching experience.
• Strong written and oral communication; sound judgment.

Responsibilities

• Provide litigation opinions and advice to business units.
• Manage day-to-day requests for litigation advice and representation.
• Oversee retaining and instructing external counsel.
• Collaborate with business partners on strategic projects.
• Assist the Vice-President & Associate General Counsel on select matters.
• Lead development and implementation of team initiatives.
• Coach and develop team members; assess performance.
