Job Summary:

Altus Group is currently seeking a candidate in the position of Sr. Cost Consultant based out of our Calgary office to join our Development Advisory team in the Cost Planning department. Working with the management team, the Sr. Consultant is responsible for managing multiple projects within the assigned budgets and ensuring services are delivered in an efficient and effective manner.

Key Responsibilities:

• Technical Services: Provide a full range of cost consulting services to new and existing clients. This involves a full technical understanding of construction estimation.
• Calculate the measurements of specific building elements and other contract documentation for detailed and conceptual estimates.
• Provide benchmarking data (unit costs for buildings/unit rate analysis).
• Prepare complex take-offs and reports for insurance replacement costs.
• Review and negotiate pricing for change orders to ensure accurate cost estimations.
• Collaborate with various internal/external partners to obtain the necessary information to prepare proposals/reports; develop innovative solutions to meet the client’s unique requirements; prepare and deliver high impact client presentations.
• Technical Management: Conduct technical checking and quality assurance of reports produced by others to ensure the deliverables are of billable quality before issuance to clients.
• Direct the distribution of inputs required for the preparation of the estimates, provide advice on project tasks and ensure receipt of the inputs as per established deadlines.
• Consolidate/Review Project Cost Estimate/Cost Plan.
• Client Relationship Management: Maintain ongoing client communication and resolve issues expeditiously. Escalate issues to the next level of management as required.
• Some Business Development is required.

Key Requirements:

• Diploma in Civil or Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Building Science or in a related field.
• 6-8 years of experience in commercial real estate cost estimation or related field.
• Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS), Construction Estimator Certified (CEC), Member RICS.
• Excellent knowledge of Computer Estimating software (e.g. CostX) and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent communication skills – interpersonal, written & verbal.
• Strong knowledge of CIQS standard method of measurement – Elemental Format.
• Understanding of various procurement methods and scheduling.
• Ability to prepare and complete trade/elemental complex take-offs based on preliminary design documents and tender/construction documents.
