Senior Control Systems Engineering Specialist

We are looking for a dedicated and innovative Senior Control Systems Engineering Designer to join our team. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems and equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.

Location – Mississauga, Thunder Bay - ON

Your role within the team:

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with company procedures and policies.
  • Timely execution of the assigned scope in the assigned software project capacities.
  • Perform suitability assessment (and qualification where needed) of system hardware and pre-developed software components.
  • Support designing, installation, and testing of an assigned product test environment.
  • Integrate software and hardware components and prepare software engineering documents such as test procedures, test reports, operation manuals, etc.
  • Site support and software maintenance services include shift work (day shift and night shift work).
  • Implement and maintain key project support systems (i.e., configuration management, document management, and change control systems) for the tooling department.
  • Support the selection and qualification of Control Systems hardware by the tooling group.
  • Collaborate with project teams to define requirements and deliver optimal solutions.
  • Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of electrical systems.
  • Monitor project progress and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain and update documentation for all electrical systems and components.
  • Assist in preparing validation tests and/or review the results of the validation testing.
  • Responsible for change control - Using configuration management system provided by his/her department to maintain software files, release, and documentation. Prepare and maintain work plans for the control software change activities.
  • Support OPEX Review - Assemble OPEX and assess what changes should be incorporated in the future designs of Tooling and Equipment.
  • Report and suggest resolution to any potential impacts to technical quality identified by the various tool manufacturers and vendors.
  • Ensure all work activities are performed safely, in collaboration with the Project Safety Manager.

  • Engineering degree (Electrical, Control, Software) from an accredited university.
  • 8+ years of experience in electrical design and implementation.
  • Experience with control systems and automation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Siemens PLC programming experience – Step 7, S7-SCL, S7-GRAPH, S7-Starter, SIMATIC NET, WinCC Flexible, and S7 Distributed Safety.
  • Siemens SCADA programming experience – WinCC Classic.
  • Siemens PROFIBUS and PROFINET.
  • PELCO experience (Endura Certified System Technician an asset).
  • Engineering drawings interpretation.
  • Engineering Change Control knowledge.
  • Analytical ability and effective decision making.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Situational awareness and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency – Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Written/oral communication skills.
