Job summary

Shift Health is seeking a Senior Consultant to join our dynamic team on a full-time, permanent basis and to support our growing pharma strategy and strategic competitive intelligence portfolio.

Reporting Relationships

Each Senior Consultant is assigned a Performance Coach to support their success in the firm. In the context of projects, reporting relationships vary from project to project.

Responsibilities

Senior Consultants coordinate the day-to-day activities of project teams, work closely with team members to guide information gathering activities, synthesize insights, develop deliverables and communicate research findings and recommendations to clients. Beyond client engagements, Senior Consultants contribute to business development by supporting the development of proposals and workplans and help to strengthen Shift Health’s culture, including our commitment to Inclusion, Equity, Diversity and Accessibility (IDEA), by participating in a variety of organizational and community outreach activities.

The duties and responsibilities of Shift Health Senior Consultants include:

Project Management
  • Managing project teams in terms of coordinating day-to-day project tasks to meet overall project objectives, timelines and budgets;
  • Ensuring projects are appropriately staffed and resourced on a weekly and longer-term basis;
  • Communicating with project stakeholders and serving as the primary point of contact with the client;
  • Supporting Senior team members in providing strategic guidance that shapes information gathering frameworks, insights and recommendations, as well as project direction to ensure deliverables meet client needs;
  • Guiding and supporting Consultants in gathering and interpreting research from diverse secondary sources and in conducting primary research, including designing consultation guides, identifying, and engaging key informants, and leading consultations;
  • Analyzing and generating insights from quantitative and qualitative information and, together with senior team members, leading the development of client deliverables;
  • Leading client calls and presenting key findings and deliverables to clients together with senior team members; and
  • Collaborating with team members to review and revise deliverables based on feedback from internal team members and clients.
Business Development
  • Supporting the development of project proposals; for example, by working with senior team members in drafting work plans;
  • Reviewing proposals and request for proposals for accuracy and completeness; and
  • Developing general marketing material (e.g. capabilities decks).
Key internal functions
  • Contributing to Shift Health’s culture and visibility by participating in internal projects and organizational strategy; for example, by supporting mentorship activities, seeking out opportunities to represent Shift Health at external events, and conducting informational interviews with candidates interested in learning about Shift Health and Consultant role at the company.
Required Qualifications and Experiences

Senior Consultants must have

  • Completed a graduate degree (PhD, Masters or equivalent) in the life sciences or a related field. A focus in vaccines/infectious disease or oncology is a distinct advantage.
  • Completed 2+ years of consulting experience. Experience in pharma commercial strategy and competitive intelligence (e.g. primary competitive intelligence), particularly within vaccines/infectious disease or oncology is a distinct advantage; and
  • A business degree/certification and/or relevant business experience may be an advantage.
Knowledge, skills and personal attributes required

To effectively conduct their essential functions, Senior Consultants are required to demonstrate excellence across the following dimensions:

  • Knowledge of science, healthcare and/or the life sciences sector, particularly private sector and in infectious disease or oncology;
  • Poise, professionalism and an ability to apply constructive feedback to deliver excellent work;
  • Comfort and ability to adapt quickly in dynamic environments;
  • Experience leading project teams and providing constructive guidance and feedback to junior colleagues on project deliverables;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to apply strategic and agile thinking to ensure projects meet endpoint goals;
  • Attention to detail and ability to ensure high quality control standards;
  • Track record in developing new knowledge frameworks and structures;
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Written and verbal communication skills;
  • Working in a team setting;
  • Organizational and project management skills; and
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Travel

Travel to client offices or off-site locations may be required. Senior Consultants may dedicate approximately 10-15% of their time to domestic or international travel.

Shift Health currently practices a hybrid model. Our office is in Toronto, ON, Canada.
