What you’ll be doing
As the Senior Consultant, Business Controls, you’ll join our Business Controls team reporting to the Director, Business Controls – CAO. You’ll work in a growing area of the bank that manages operational risk for Chief Administrative Office (CAO). As part of the Business Controls, that is a 1B Governance Group, you will support the LOB in meeting their governance, risk and control activities by executing requirements within the Control Framework to effectively identify, assess, mitigate and monitor risks and ensure compliance with regulatory and operational requirements including but not limited to Control and Deficiency management, Audit and Examination support, Change Initiative and Risk Assessment Process, Regulatory Group Topic (RGT) Risk Assessments, Risk and Control Self- Assessment (RCSA), Reputation and Legal Risk Committee process management and other ad hoc reviews and assessments.

How you’ll succeed
Control and Deficiency Management Execution - Communicate the Control Framework requirements to LOB partners. Develop, implement, document, and maintain Key and Non-Key Controls for LoBs. Develop and recommend new/changes to Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities (KAR) and formal key Control and Non-Key Control testing programs. Summarize control testing results in preparation for LOB/Executive reviews and sign-off processes. Designated as the SOX Officer/Maintenance Officer (SOMO) to manage deficiencies/risk items on behalf of the Accountable Officer, oversee the administration activities in eGRC on behalf of the Action Plan Approver, which include the remediation and closure activities of the issues and liaise with other governance partners (Control Groups, 2nd or 3rd LOD) in the maintenance and/or closure of deficiencies. Create sustainability action plans, test steps and test questions for Sustainability Testing. Responsible for the documentation, maintenance and periodic review of deficiency information / attributes to support the AOs to ensure accuracy and data integrity via the Assertion process.
Change Initiative Risk Assessment (CIRA) - Support the SBU CIRA Committee Relationship Manager, with effective Committee Operation and administration. Support and consult on the 1A activities related to the CIRA process, as needed. Review the quality of CIRAs prior to presentation to the BU CIRAC and the CRO/ExCo Review Meeting to ensure initiative detail, and its relevant risks and mitigations strategies are appropriately described to support robust risk discussion and challenge. Distribute CIRAs to the BU CIRAC members and relevant stakeholders, and ensure approvals from all stakeholders are obtained prior to the launch of the change initiative and submit the final CIRA along with artifacts to the CIRA Program Team and track CIRAC action items to closure.
Risk Consulting - You will act as the risk and control Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing expert advice to LOB partners and be engaged on Internal Audits, Compliance exams and GORM reviews on behalf of the LoB. Provide ongoing management of self-assessment processes. Participating in larger more complex business, governance and regulatory projects to identify risk and control issues, recommend solutions and develop control requirements. You will lead the Reputation and Legal Risk process, ensuring all material risks are identified and compliant to the CIBC CIRA policy and process.
Analytical - You give meaning to data. You proactively identify risk exposures and control gaps. You analyze and synthesize risk exposures, operational losses, root causes and control gaps. You proactively assess and recommend self-assessed deficiencies. You propose recommendations to mitigate risk exposures and control gaps.
Influence/Negotiation - Peer mentoring and indirect people leadership influencing, coaching and negotiation with LOB, 2nd and 3rd Line of Defense. As an employee of CIBC: you must comply with all applicable CIBC and Line of Business policies, standards, guidelines and controls.
Relationship Building/Management - You will manage key relationships and collaborate with business partners, 2nd and 3rd lines of defense for all matters relating to operational risk. You will manage relationships at peer or director level, as well as project/initiative managers within the assigned CAO functional group. Ensure senior management is kept apprised of material and emerging business risks by developing and recommending appropriate risk mitigation strategies. Collaborate with Risk Stakeholders such as GORM, Compliance and Internal Audit. Develop and deliver regular reporting to senior management.
