Job summary

WSP in Vancouver, BC is seeking a Senior Consultant - Air Quality to lead and deliver air quality projects for industrial, commercial, infrastructure and public-sector clients across British Columbia and Western Canada.

You will conduct dispersion modelling (AERMOD/CALPUFF), prepare regulatory submissions, and develop monitoring plans while mentoring junior staff. Collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and regional networks is essential for project success.

Qualifications

  • Five+ years of air quality consulting with leadership experience.

The Opportunity

Build the Future with Us – Join our Environmental Management team as a Senior Consultant - Air Qualityin our Vancouver, BC office.

Bring your technical expertise and consulting experience to projects that help clients understand and manage air emissions, navigate regulatory requirements and make informed environmental decisions. You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team delivering air quality assessments, dispersion modelling, emissions inventories, monitoring programs and permitting services across British Columbia, Yukon and Western Canada.

This role combines hands‑on technical work with project management, client engagement and mentoring. You’ll take ownership of project delivery, guide developing professionals and contribute to new business opportunities, with support from WSP’s regional and national network of specialists

Your Impact

Lead and deliver air quality projects for industrial, commercial, infrastructure and public‑sector clients, supporting regulatory approvals, environmental impact assessments and special studies.

Conduct and oversee emissions inventories, dispersion modelling (AERMOD, CALPUFF), and meteorological and ambient air quality analyses to characterize baseline conditions, assess impacts and develop monitoring and mitigation recommendations.

Prepare and review technical reports, air permit applications and regulatory submissions, communicate findings, and respond to technical questions from clients and regulators.

Develop air quality monitoring and management plans, coordinating with field specialists to align monitoring programs, data quality objectives, reporting requirements and project needs.

Manage projects from proposal through closeout, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, resource coordination, progress reporting, invoicing, financial performance and proactive management of scope, budget and schedule changes.

Provide technical leadership through guidance, peer review and QA/QC oversight, ensuring defensible assessments, clear documentation and consistent quality standards.

Build and maintain client relationships, understand client priorities, provide practical solutions, and contribute to business development by identifying opportunities, leading proposals, developing technical approaches, and estimating project effort and resources.

Mentor junior and intermediate team members, supporting development of technical skills, professional judgment and project delivery capabilities.

Collaborate across WSP’s technical teams to share knowledge, enhance analytical tools, and improve modelling, reporting and review processes.

Uphold WSP’s safety culture and Life Saving Rules during site visits, client meetings and field program activities.

The Skills That Set You Apart

Degree in atmospheric science, environmental science, chemical, mechanical or environmental engineering, or a related discipline; a relevant graduate degree is an asset.

5+ years of air quality consulting experience with increasing responsibility for technical assessments, project delivery, client interaction, and areas such as dispersion modelling, emissions inventories, air permitting, environmental impact assessments, regulatory reporting, and monitoring program design and interpretation.

Strong experience applying AERMOD and/or CALPUFF, including preparation and review of model inputs, evaluation of results, and communication of assessment implications and limitations.

Proven ability to interpret and apply air quality regulations, assessment guidelines, and permitting requirements; direct experience with British Columbia and Metro Vancouver requirements is a strong asset.

Demonstrated success managing projects or major technical work packages, coordinating contributors, and delivering high‑quality work on schedule and within budget.

Excellent technical writing, communication, analytical, and data management skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with GIS, Python, R, Linux, or similar analytical tools is an asset.

Experience building client relationships, supporting proposal development and business growth, mentoring developing professionals, reviewing technical work, and collaborating effectively across disciplines and locations; a track record of securing new or repeat work is an asset.

Strong initiative, sound professional judgment, attention to detail, and a practical approach to solving technical challenges and balancing competing priorities; a relevant professional designation is an asset, with engineering candidates registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia.

Willing to undertake occasional travel for meetings, site visits, and client collaboration.

Compensation

  • AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $110,600 – $146,500
  • MB & ON: $100,900 – $139,000
  • NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $99,900 – $132,700
