Job summary

WSP in Vancouver, BC is seeking an Air Quality Technician for a primarily field‑oriented role. You will deliver ambient air quality monitoring programs, install and maintain equipment, review data, and contribute to technical reporting with support from scientists and engineers.

The position involves travel across British Columbia and Western Canada, working outdoors in varying conditions, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure data quality and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree or technical diploma in Environmental Tech, Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Chemistry, or Engineering Tech plus 2+ years of field experience.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring equipment and strong mechanical aptitude.
• Comfort handling field instrumentation and basic electronics.

Responsibilities

• Lead ambient air quality field programs across urban, industrial, and remote sites.
• Install, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair monitoring equipment for reliable data.
• Perform field measurements, QA/QC, and keep logs and calibration records up to date.
• Plan field mobilizations, prep equipment, manage inventory, and coordinate site logistics.
• Review and interpret monitoring data to support regulatory deliverables and project goals.
• Prepare technical reports, field summaries, and monitoring plans.
• Collaborate with scientists and engineers on various air quality studies.
• Travel for multi-day assignments across BC and Western Canada; adhere to safety policies.

The Opportunity

Build the Future with Us – Join our Environmental Management team as a Air Quality Technicianin our Vancouver, BC office.

In this role, you’ll be a key part of delivering air quality monitoring programs across British Columbia and Western Canada. The position is primarily field-oriented and combines hands‑on environmental monitoring, instrumentation, troubleshooting and site work with office‑based support such as data review, equipment preparation, documentation and technical reporting.

You’ll work alongside air quality scientists, engineers and project managers on industrial, commercial and community air quality programs, with opportunities to broaden your technical skills and support other environmental monitoring activities as your experience develops.

Your Impact

• Lead and execute ambient air quality, meteorological, and environmental monitoring field programs across urban, industrial, and remote environments.
• Install, operate, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, audit, and repair air quality and meteorological monitoring equipment to ensure reliable system performance and high‑quality data collection.
• Conduct field measurements, sampling, equipment checks, calibrations, and QA/QC procedures while maintaining accurate field logs, calibration records, and equipment documentation.
• Support the planning and mobilization of field programs, including equipment preparation, testing, inventory management, shipping, and site logistics.
• Collect, review, organize, validate, and assist in the interpretation of monitoring data to support project objectives and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare monitoring reports, field summaries, technical documentation, regulatory deliverables, and contribute to the development of monitoring plans and field procedures.
• Collaborate with air quality scientists and engineers on monitoring studies, emissions assessments, source testing, industrial emissions programs, and other air quality projects.
• Support a variety of Environmental Management programs, including noise, construction, and other environmental monitoring initiatives as project needs require.
• Travel to project sites throughout British Columbia and occasionally across Western Canada, including multi‑day field assignments, while upholding WSP's safety culture and Life Saving Rules in all field and office environments.

The Skills That Set You Apart

• Degree or technical diploma in Environmental Technology, Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science, Chemistry, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline, combined with 2+ years of experience in environmental monitoring, air quality, emissions testing, industrial field services, or a related technical field.
• Hands‑on experience operating, calibrating, maintaining, or troubleshooting environmental, scientific, or industrial monitoring equipment, supported by strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with instrumentation, electronics, and standard hand tools.
• Ability to safely handle and move field equipment and supplies, including equipment weighing approximately 30-50 lb (13-22 kg).
• Experience with ambient air monitoring, meteorological instrumentation, industrial emissions, source testing, environmental field QA/QC procedures, calibration records, chain‑of‑custody documentation, or regulatory monitoring requirements is considered an asset.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and other standard software for data organization, documentation, and reporting, with experience or interest in air quality data analysis, GIS, databases, Python, R, or similar technical tools considered an asset.
• Strong initiative, attention to detail, practical problem‑solving skills, and a flexible, solution‑oriented approach to work.
• Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, supported by strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and at industrial or remote sites, with flexibility for occasional extended field days, travel, and overtime, plus a valid unrestricted Class 5 driver’s license.

Compensation

• AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $60,100 – $79,600
• MB & ON: $54,800 – $75,400
• NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $54,200 – $72,000
