JOB TITLE: Senior Construction Estimator — Construction

INDUSTRY: Construction / Engineering

LOCATION: Calgary, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Edmonton

Pinnacle is exclusively recruiting for a Senior Estimator on behalf of our client, a leading general contractor operating across Canada. This is a key role within the organization, responsible for leading the estimation process, mentoring junior team members, and ensuring the development of accurate, competitive, and high-quality proposals.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Proposal Development & Cost Estimation

• Collaborate with business development and operations teams to define proposal requirements and project scope.
• Conduct detailed cost analysis by leveraging historical project data and in-house resources.
• Prepare and issue requests for quotations, develop base cost estimates, and create preliminary construction and labor schedules.
• Lead the preparation of proposal documents, contract agreements, and Letters of Authorization.
• Manage optional pricing strategies, finalize project costs, and ensure cost coding aligns with project financials.
• Work closely with the Project Manager during the handoff process to ensure seamless project initiation.
• Chair proposal review meetings and contribute to other key project discussions.

Leadership & Mentorship

• Provide leadership to Project Planners and Planning Coordinators, ensuring their professional development and growth.
• Delegate proposal development tasks effectively while overseeing quality and accuracy.
• Offer coaching and guidance to junior staff to enhance team capabilities.

MUST HAVES:

• Post-secondary education in engineering, construction technology, or a related field (CET, P.Eng, EIT, or equivalent work experience).
• Minimum 5 years of progressive industry experience with a proven track record of leading proposal development teams.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage, mentor, and direct a proposal support team.
• Exceptional attention to detail, planning, and organizational abilities.
• Creative problem-solver with an ability to develop innovative solutions to complex challenges.
• Solid business acumen with an understanding of financial aspects of construction projects.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
• Advanced computer skills, including MS Office (Excel, Project).
• Willingness to travel to worksites as needed.
