Startec Refrigeration Service is currently recruiting a Commercial Estimator to work at our Calgary, Alberta location (9423 Shepard Road SE, T2C 4R6) . The Commercial Estimator provides project management and estimating for HVAC / Refrigeration construction projects. The Estimator oversees project estimating, bidding, budgeting, scheduling, cost control, labor management, material procurement, quality control, and customer satisfaction. Your expertise will shine as you analyze drawings and specifications to craft precise cost estimates. This includes understanding customer requirements, coordinating resources and materials for seamless project execution. Through clear communication and efficient planning, you'll unite stakeholders and guarantee project success.

ESTIMATING & PRE-CONSTRUCTION (Weighting 40%) Cost analysis

• Estimate materials, equipment, and labor costs.
• Gather quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Assess project risks and provide recommendations
• Prepare and submit detailed project quotation and bids.
• Analyze project drawings, specifications, and scope of work to develop accurate cost estimates.
• Demonstrate the ability to read and understand contracts, construction documents, plans and specifications.
• Provide detailed estimates based on conceptual document as well as schematic, design development, and construction documents.
• Review documents to identify project bid requirements, scope of work, scheduling impacts, non-standard work conditions, material and equipment data, safety and compliance requirements, risk management, and other special considerations.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, bid strategy discussions, and post-construction evaluations

Proposal Development

• Preparing and submitting quotations for work.
• Helping with bids for new contracts.
• Participates in pre-bid meetings, bid strategy meetings, and post-construction meetings.
• Oversee projects from start to finish, ensuring alignment with budget and schedules.
• Assist in preparing project schedules, procurement plans, and resource allocations.
• Monitor project progress to ensure costs remain in line with forecasts.
• Coordinate scheduling to ensure material is ordered and delivered at the required dates.
• Track and manage project submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
• Ensure all projects adhere to safety and quality standards.
• Track and control all project costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractors.
• Monitor and report project progress against cost projections.
• Provide monthly project billing requirements to administration.
• Coordinate the submission of all close-out documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS :

• 2 to 3 years of experience in HVAC / Refrigeration estimating for plan and specification, as well as design-build projects.
• Strong understanding of construction and HVAC / R processes.
• Ability to perform in a collaborative, team-based environment.
• Highly organized, self-motivated, and dependable with the drive to succeed in a fast-paced setting.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, contracts, and construction documents.
• Experience in AutoCAD and drafting software is an asset.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Valid Alberta driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
