Job summary

The University of Waterloo is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to lead strategic communications for Velocity, the university’s startup incubator. You will develop messaging, plans and content that showcases founders, ventures and ecosystem partnerships, while advising Velocity leaders and partners on delivery approaches.

With 4–6 years of communications experience, you will independently manage high-profile initiatives, translate institutional priorities into compelling communications,

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree or post-secondary diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, English, marketing or a related field.
• 4-6 years of progressively responsible communications experience.
• Experience independently managing complex or non-routine communications initiatives.
• Experience developing strategic messaging and producing high-quality communications content.
• Experience coordinating projects, communications activities or stakeholder-driven initiatives.
• Experience providing communications advice and recommendations to clients, leaders or project teams.

Responsibilities

• Leads complex or specialized communications initiatives supporting Velocity and entrepreneurship programs.
• Develops strategic messaging and content across print, digital and executive formats.
• Coordinates communications across Velocity teams, founders, industry partners and campus stakeholders.
• Evaluates communications effectiveness and identifies opportunities to improve outcomes, engagement and impact.
