Position Summary
The Senior Consultant, Corporate Communications, provides senior-level communications consulting services and counsel to support corporate, external, and internal communications with Toronto Seniors Housing tenants, staff, social housing applicants, community partners, media, and other interest-holders. The Senior Consultant plans and implements corporate communications and public relations strategies and activities. The goal is to make sure that tenants, applicants, and other partners and interest-holders have clear, timely, and accurate information, and staff are informed and engaged, enabling them to provide better customer service.
Responsibilities
Provides senior-level communications consulting services and counsel.
- Provides communications consulting services and counsel to support corporate communications strategies aimed at tenants, applicants, staff, and other partners and interest-holders.
- Provides communications consulting services and counsel around media monitoring and relations, as well as issues management.
- Proactively identifies communications and public relations opportunities and risks and develops and implements communications strategies to maximize these opportunities and minimize risks.
- Provides communications planning and project management services for priority corporate, external, and internal communications initiatives (e.g., the annual report, organizational realignment, pilot programs to improve services to tenants and applicants, etc.).
- Ensures that communications products and activities abide by the translation policy and legislative (e.g., AODA) commitments.
- Monitors and measures the effectiveness of communications projects, vehicles, tactics, and practices.
- Represents Toronto Seniors Housing interests with community agencies and public and private sector partners in planning and executing joint communications strategies.
- Supports and works with managers and staff throughout the corporation to build and sustain positive relationships with tenants, staff, partners, media, and other interest-holders.
Develops communications products and tools.
- Writes, edits, designs and develops, or oversees the development, of a range of print and digital communications products, support tools, and templates that promote effective communications of Toronto Seniors Housing’s vision, mandate, commitment, values, strategic priorities, and brand.
- Recommends and develops improvements to the Toronto Seniors Housing’s external website and intranet that promote better communications and service excellence.
- Liaises with external consultants and vendors hired during peak periods to ensure work is completed on time and according to contract specifications.
- Provides communications counsel, editorial services, and advice to assist Toronto Seniors Housing with preparing presentations, talking points, speaking notes, and handouts for internal and external use, to ensure maximum clarity, effectiveness, and consistency with corporate objectives and brand identity.
Provides mentorship to communications team members.
- Leads, supports, and mentors some work of Toronto Seniors Housing team members, business units, and others as assigned by the Manager.
- Liaises with colleges and associations to recruit suitable students for short- term work placements and internships.
Other duties as assigned and required.
- Assists with updating and creating content on Toronto Seniors Housing’s website, intranet, social media, and other digital platforms, as assigned and required.
- Assists with the distribution of tenant, staff, and other partner and interest-holder communications messages through the company email and other channels, as assigned and required.
- Attends and assists with communications materials for tenant meetings and events at locations across the city.
- Assists in making sure that materials are in accessible formats and available in multiple languages.
Qualifications
- Degree from a recognized university or college in corporate communications, public relations, marketing communications, business communications, journalism or English, or equivalent combination of post-secondary education and on-the-job experience.
- Minimum of five to seven years of corporate communications/public relations experience, with at least three to five years of digital design and writing experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-profile and sensitive corporate communications and external and internal communications assignments in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated experience with corporate communications projects and products (e.g., annual reports).
- Demonstrated ability to deliver expected outcomes in a results-oriented environment with multiple projects, strict deadlines, and changing, competing, and at times conflicting priorities.
- Excellent organizational skills, with a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong networking and relationship building skills.
- A strong team player who is also able to work independently.
- Exceptionally high degree of judgment and discretion; ability to analyze, problem solve, and mediate complex situations with multiple partners.

- Proficient with computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Suite, Content Management Systems such as Drupal and/or SharePoint, social media engagement tools such as Sprout Social, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal, project management, and presentation skills.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service to a variety of community members and partners.
- Ability and sensitivity in providing respectful service to diverse populations.
- Experience using or proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, WordPress, Contact Monkey, InDesign, Photoshop and/or Premiere is considered an asset.
