Job summary

Rising Edge Group is seeking a Senior Commissioning Technologist to lead field testing and commissioning of primary and secondary power equipment across North America. You will work on high-voltage substations, mentor junior technologists, and ensure safety and quality while interpreting complex prints and tests.

Responsibilities include setting up specialized test equipment, testing protection and control relays, SCADA systems, and providing actionable recommendations.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or a Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 4+ years of experience in field testing and commissioning.
• Hands-on substations experience 600V to 500kV is required.
• Familiar with power transformers, high voltage switches, breakers, CTs/PTs, NGR, and capacitor banks.
• Experience with testing software (Omicron, Doble, AcSELerator, Siemens Digsi, GE EnerVista) is an asset.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong commitment to safety and safety practices.

What You'll Do

Reporting to theCommissioning Manager, the SeniorCommissioning Technologist is responsible for commissioning, testing and maintaining primary and secondary power equipment in the field. This includesmaintainingmedium-to-high-voltage substation power delivery equipment such as breakers, switchgears, circuit breakers,relaysand transformers. The Senior Commissioning Technologist role also involves mentoring and educatingjunior technologistsincluding reading and interpreting prints, riskmanagementstrategies and promoting industry best practices. The SeniorCommissioning Technologist also plays a leading role in setting up and operating both standard and specialized test equipment to diagnose and analyze the performance of power delivery equipment on-site.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture alongside all members of the construction crew
• Commission and test high voltage equipment such as Circuit breakers, Transformers, manual and motor operated switches, Current Transformers, Voltage Transformers, CapacitorBanksand circuit switchers.
• Commission protection and control relays such as SEL, GE,Siemensand ABB.
• Commission control circuits for protection,indicationand monitoring systems.
• Perform acceptance and maintenance testing on electrical equipment ranging from 600v to 500kV
• Installation, commissioning and maintenance of protection and control equipment, including SCADA in medium to high-voltage transmission substations
• Work with protection schemes such as differential, distance, line protections, transformer protections and overcurrent protections
• Interpret electrical drawings and schematics, analyze test results, and recommend corrective actions
• Work with high voltage equipment such as Circuit breakers, transformers, switches and control circuits for protection,indicationand monitoring systems
• Supervise, mentor and train junior technicians
• Be able to work with various types of manufacturer’s test equipment:
• Omicron CMC356 CT analyzer, Cibano, CPC100, Votano, Testrano
• Doble M4100, SFRA
• Megger megohmmeter and 10A Ductor
• Broman 100A Ductor
• Megger TTR
• Dilo and SMC Gas Analyzers
• VLF and AC Hi Pots

Additional Information

This position isdesignatedas safety-sensitive making employment contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as criminal and general background checks.

Schedule & Compensation

• Schedule rotations include 7 days on / 7 days offor7 days on / 14 days off, etc.
• Standard workdays are 10 hours (7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.)
• Overtime paid at time and a half after 10 hours per day and 40 hours per week
• Out-of-town work includes either all-inclusive camp accommodations or LOA and individual accommodations (project dependent)

What We're Looking For

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution or Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Minimum of 4+ years of experience in Field Testing and Commissioning
• Hands-on experience in substations (600V to 500kV) required
• Familiar with power transformers, high voltage switches, breakers,CT’sand PT’s, NGR, andCapbank
• Experiencewith testing software is considered an asset (Omicron Test Universe, Doble M4000,AcSELerator, SiemensDigsi, GEEnervista)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong commitment to safety, environmental, and health practices
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license required
• Must have the ability to work in adverse weather conditions
• Willing to travel and work out of town and on rotational schedules
