Job summary

Sovereign Insurance in Winnipeg is seeking an Underwriting Specialist, Commercial Lines to review large and complex applications and determine risk, coverage, and premiums.

You will accept or reject applications based on policies and authority levels, while developing broker relationships to grow new business and renewals. The role requires 10+ years of underwriting experience, experience across construction, manufacturing, wholesale, and warehousing, and may involve mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Commercial Underwriting experience, with established broker relationships.
• Proven experience working on both new business and renewal business
• Experience in Construction, Project Business, Manufacturing & Processing, Wholesale, Warehousing and Transportation.
• Having Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation an asset.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate large and complex account applications to determine risk, extent of coverage, and premiums.
• Accept or reject applications based on established policies, procedures and standards, company philosophies and Authority Levels.
• Develop and maintain positive, constructive relationships with brokers.
• Promote, underwriting and quoting new business, renewals and endorsements.
• Negotiate coverage and rates and participate in underwriting audits.
• Support a team-oriented approach and mentor junior underwriting staff.
• Keep current on market conditions, regulations and emerging trends.
