Job summary

Brandt Group of Companies seeks a senior civil engineer to lead civil design for commercial and industrial sites across Canada. You will manage stormwater, grading, paving, permitting, and collaborate with architects and clients while mentoring designers and guiding project delivery from concept to construction.

The role requires a P.Eng. in Canada and 10+ years of experience, with strong software proficiency and willingness to travel to project sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution (Master’s degree an asset).
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in civil engineering design with a focus on commercial and industrial sites in Canada.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada
• Proven expertise in stormwater management design and modeling
• Proven expertise in site grading and earthworks
• Proven expertise in asphalt and concrete paving systems
• Proven expertise in regulatory permitting and municipal approvals
• Proficiency with civil design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, SWMHYMO, PCSWMM, HydroCAD, or equivalent stormwater modeling tools.
• Experience in construction administration and contract management
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required
• In-depth knowledge of provincial and municipal design standards, including familiarity with CSA, TAC, and municipal guidelines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for client interactions, technical writing, and regulatory negotiations
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple projects and priorities

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute the design of civil engineering components for commercial and industrial building sites, including paving structures and drainage systems.
• Prepare comprehensive civil design packages including drawings, specifications, reports, and technical memorandums.
• Perform advanced stormwater modeling, hydrological analysis, and erosion control planning.
• Navigate permitting processes with AHJs including municipalities and regulators.
• Review regulatory codes and design standards to ensure compliance.
• Prepare and review construction cost estimates, tender documents, and bid evaluations.
• Conduct site visits for due diligence, design verification, and construction observation.
• Collaborate with architects and engineers to integrate civil design with project requirements.
• Provide mentorship and quality control reviews for designers.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, and public officials.

What You Will Be Responsible For

• Lead and execute the design of civil engineering components for commercial and industrial building sites, including:
• Paving structures (parking lots, roadways, loading areas)
• Stormwater management systems and drainage calculations
• Site grading and earthworks balancing
• Utility coordination (water, sewer, power, communications)
• Prepare comprehensive civil design packages including drawings, specifications, reports, and technical memorandums.
• Perform advanced stormwater modeling, hydrological analysis, and erosion control planning in compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal regulations.
• Independently navigate permitting processes with various Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), including municipalities, conservation authorities, and provincial/federal regulators.
• Review and interpret regulatory codes, design standards, and industry best practices to ensure compliance in all project deliverables.
• Prepare and review construction cost estimates, tender documents, and bid evaluations for civil scopes of work.
• Conduct site visits for due diligence, design verification, and construction observation.
• Collaborate with architects, structural, mechanical and electrical engineers, and clients to integrate civil design seamlessly with overall project requirements.
• Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and quality control reviews for designers.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables for assigned projects.
• Maintain strong professional relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, and public officials.

What We Look For
