Job summary

Definity is seeking a property catastrophe claims adjuster to evaluate, estimate, negotiate, and settle complex claims across Canada. You will travel to loss sites, provide client service, and document all claim data in company systems.

The role emphasizes interpreting policy wordings, driving claims to closure, and leveraging tools like Xactware and Xactimate. A university degree or CIP designation is preferred, with bilingual English/French highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a property claim adjuster or appraiser.
  • Experience with Xactware software and writing estimates in Xactimate for property damages.
  • Bilingual (French & English) is a strong asset.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work autonomously.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, estimate, negotiate, and settle property catastrophe claims.

Job description

Opportunity

The successful candidate’s responsibilities include evaluating, estimating, negotiating, and settling property catastrophe claims in accordance with company standards. The candidate will travel to loss locations across Canada in response to catastrophic weather events to provide excellent customer service to clients.

Expectations
  • The candidate will be assigned a company vehicle.
  • The candidate will receive a catastrophe occupational bonus in addition to salary, overtime, per diem, and bonus.
  • The candidate will be required to travel to loss sites across Canada.
  • The candidate will deploy approved economical loss cost control programs and technology to investigate, negotiate, and settle moderate to complex personal claims.
  • The candidate will develop and record claim information, document notes in the appropriate system(s), and drive claims toward closure.
  • The candidate will interpret policy wordings to make coverage decisions, review claim evidence, photos, and investigative documentation to identify subrogation opportunities or potential third‑party liability exposure.
  • The candidate will maintain relationships and provide accurate direction to vendors and experts within corporate guidelines.
  • The candidate will have knowledge of building code and by‑laws as they pertain to structural repairs.
  • When not deployed, the candidate will support regional adjusting functions, business‑as‑usual claims, and national appraisal functions while not deployed.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a property claim adjuster or appraiser.
  • University degree, college diploma, and/or CIP designation is an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of Xactware software and experience writing estimates in Xactimate for both interior and exterior property damages, and navigating Xactanalysis.
  • Experience using estimating software such as PLNAR, HOVER, Eagleview, etc. is an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work autonomously.
  • Professional, friendly, courteous in all interactions, flexible, and able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Bilingual (French & English) is a strong asset.
Salary Range

$59,300 - $109,200

Working Hours

While deployed on catastrophic claims, the expected workday is 12 hours per day, 6 or 7 days per week. When not deployed, the regular workweek is 36.25 hours.
