Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a Cook to join our team in Ottawa, Ontario. The role covers 60 hours biweekly with shifts from 5:30 to 13:30 and 7:00 to 15:00, including every second weekend. You will prepare and deliver meals for residents, guests and staff, following menus and production sheets.

You’ll ensure proper food handling, complete daily temperature audits, and accommodate special diets within budget and schedules. A Food Handler’s Certificate is required; Red Seal preferred.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Food Handler's Certificate
• Red Seal Certificate preferred
• Experience in large quantity food preparation, preferably in healthcare or retirement setting
• Knowledge of Provincial Food Premises Regulation and Canada’s Food Guide to Healthy Eating
• Knowledge/experience with special and therapeutic diets

Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver foods for residents, guests and employees
• Review menus and production sheets; prepare and serve meals attractively
• Ensure proper food handling techniques
• Complete daily temperature audits for fridge, freezers and storerooms
• Prepare and serve foods for therapeutic/specialty diets
• Make menu substitutions and record changes
• Adhere to service times and production charts within budget
• Comply with regulations and dietary department policies
• Participate in special occasion/theme meal planning
• Attend meetings and required trainings
• Respect Resident Rights & Responsibilities and participate in Quality Improvement
• Follow health and safety legislation and safe job procedures
• Work in a role with vulnerable adults and uphold Extendicare's values
• Complete other duties as assigned
