The ideal candidate has 3–5+ years of purchasing experience in manufacturing, strong ERP/MRP and Excel skills, and a Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Job description

Schedule: Monday to Friday | 40 hours per week

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Salary: $70,000 – $90,000 per year, based on experience

About the Opportunity

Fuze HR is currently recruiting for an experienced Buyer to join a well-established Canadian company in the food manufacturing and consumer packaged goods sector.

Our client operates a fast-paced food manufacturing facility in Milton, Ontario, producing food and dessert products and working closely with suppliers to ensure the timely availability of ingredients, packaging, raw materials, and other materials required to support production.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced procurement professional who is comfortable working independently, managing supplier relationships, negotiating pricing, monitoring inventory, and supporting day-to-day manufacturing operations.

Both permanent and contract opportunities may be considered for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day purchasing activities for materials, supplies, packaging, ingredients, and equipment.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term procurement strategies focused on cost reduction, quality, service, and operational efficiency.
  • Review MRP reports and determine material requirements based on inventory levels and production needs.
  • Create and manage purchase orders and warehouse transfer orders.
  • Monitor inventory levels and support periodic inventory reviews.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy, including inventory held at third-party logistics (3PL) facilities.
  • Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations, pricing, product specifications, and other purchasing information.
  • Source and secure competitive bids for materials, products, and services.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, delivery schedules, and supplier agreements.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve delivery, quality, pricing, and billing issues.
  • Review receiving documentation and assist with invoice discrepancies and approvals.
  • Coordinate purchasing requirements with production to ensure materials are available when required.
  • Support production requirements related to apple peeling.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for supplier cost savings and process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate vendor, product, purchasing, and transfer records.
  • Maintain and support the Certificate of Analysis (COA) program and ensure documentation remains current.
  • Participate in inventory counts and other purchasing and supply chain projects as required.
  • Collaborate closely with production, warehouse, quality, finance, and supply chain teams.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
  • 3–5+ years of hands-on, independent purchasing or procurement experience.
  • Proven experience working as a Buyer within a manufacturing environment.
  • Food manufacturing or CPG experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience purchasing ingredients, raw materials and/or packaging is a significant asset.
  • Strong supplier management and negotiation experience.
  • Experience sourcing materials, obtaining quotations, negotiating pricing, and managing supplier relationships.
  • Strong understanding of MRP, inventory management, purchasing processes, and material requirements.
  • Experience creating and managing purchase orders.
  • Experience working with an ERP system; Microsoft Dynamics 365 is preferred.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyze purchasing and inventory data.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound purchasing decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and solutions-focused.
  • Strong customer-service and relationship-management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Purchasing, or a related discipline is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
Preferred / Asset Experience

Candidates with the following experience will be considered strong assets:

  • Bakery or dessert manufacturing
  • Food processing or CPG manufacturing
  • Packaging procurement
  • BRC or other GFSI experience
  • HACCP or food-safety-related manufacturing environments
  • Certificate of Analysis (COA) management
  • Production planning or production coordination
  • 3PL inventory management
  • Demonstrated supplier cost savings or procurement optimization
  • Experience working closely with Quality, Production, Warehouse, and Supply Chain teams
The Ideal Candidate

This is an opportunity for an experienced Buyer who can hit the ground running and operate with a high degree of independence.

The successful candidate should be comfortable taking ownership of purchasing activities, working directly with suppliers, reviewing MRP and inventory requirements, negotiating pricing, resolving issues, and ensuring materials are available to support production.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked in food manufacturing, bakery, dessert manufacturing, CPG, or another manufacturing environment where purchasing directly supports production.

Candidates from other manufacturing industries with strong, transferable purchasing experience are also encouraged to apply.
