Job summary

Emmerson Packaging hires a Senior Business Analyst, Finance to own the finance and controlling workstream for the S/4HANA program, translating how we close books, cost products and manage tax into a clean-core S/4HANA design. You will bridge Finance leadership, our systems integrator and the PMO.

The program moves from SAP ECC 6.0 to S/4HANA via RISE with SAP Brownfield; this 1-year term with renewal through go-live and hypercare is a hybrid role with travel to Atlantic Canada or Ontario plants.

Qualifications

• 7+ years as a business analyst or functional consultant in SAP finance, with at least one full-lifecycle S/4HANA implementation (Brownfield preferred).
• Hands-on depth in FI (GL, AP, AR, AA) and CO, plus working knowledge of Material Ledger.
• Degree in accounting, finance, business or information systems.

Responsibilities

• Leads fit-to-standard workshops for record-to-report, procure-to-pay (finance side), order-to-cash (billing, AR, revenue) and fixed assets.
• Documents current-state ECC processes and gaps, and defines future-state design in the Universal Journal (ACDOCA), including ledger, segment and profit center structure.
• Designs product costing and controlling: standard cost estimates, production order costing, variance analysis, WIP and settlement, and Material Ledger / actual costing in S/4HANA.
• Defines margin analysis (CO-PA) requirements for customer, product and plant profitability, including surcharge and pricing condition flows from SD.
• Supports the move of pricing governance into Finance after the conversion: SD pricing procedures, customer price records and price lists, surcharges, and standardized pricing and cost-estimating processes within SAP.
• Owns tax and compliance requirements: Canadian GST/HST, cross-border (Canada/US) transactions, Incoterms-driven tax determination and customs valuation.
• Leads finance conversion readiness and validation: simplification items, Universal Journal migration, mandatory Material Ledger activation, new asset accounting, and reconciliation of balances, open items and history before and after conversion.
• Writes functional specifications for reports, interfaces and extensions, keeping custom code out of the core wherever possible.
• Builds test scenarios, leads integration and user acceptance testing with Finance, and supports cutover, month-end dry runs and hypercare.
• Supports change management and training for Finance users alongside business process owners.

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Business Analyst, Finance owns the finance and controlling workstream for our S/4HANA program, translating how Emmerson Packaging closes its books, costs its products and manages tax into a clean-core S/4HANA design. In this role, you will be the bridge between Finance leadership, our systems integrator and the PMO, and you will support Finance as it takes on ownership of pricing after the conversion.

Emmerson Packaging is moving from SAP ECC 6.0 to S/4HANA through a RISE with SAP Brownfield system conversion, and we are hiring experienced business analysts to help lead the design. The program is run by our Program Management Office (PMO) and is the company’s primary strategic initiative. Phase 0 discovery with our systems integrator partners runs through December 2026, followed by Prepare, Explore, Realize, Deploy and Run. You will shape a Day 1 design for a real manufacturing business, work directly with business process owners in 24 departments, and have visible impact on how the company runs for the next decade.

POSITION DETAILS

• Reports to: ERP Program Manager and PMO Lead
• Team: S/4HANA implementation team within the PMO, working with business process owners, SMEs and systems integrator consultants
• Location: Hybrid, Atlantic Canada or Ontario, with travel to our Amherst, NS and Belleville, ON plants
• Travel: Up to 25%, heavier during workshops, testing and cutover

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Abides by all Emmerson Packaging’s Management System policies, follows procedures, work instructions and other requirements including adherence to EH&S Act regulations.
• Obligation to take any necessary steps/actions to continue adherence to the Management System (quality and environmental). If the necessary steps are outside assigned authority, there is an obligation to bring the issue to their supervisor.

COMPETENCIES

• Must be a clear writer and facilitator who can hold a room of CFO, finance manager, and plant controllers, accountants
• Must have a strong understanding of manufacturing accounting: inventory valuation, standard vs. moving average price, variances and period-end close
• Must be familiar with SAP S4 Project Methodology, fit-to-standard and clean-core principles

REQUIREMENTS

• 7+ years as a business analyst or functional consultant in SAP finance, with at least one full-lifecycle S/4HANA implementation (Brownfield conversion strongly preferred)
• Hands‑on depth in FI (GL, AP, AR, AA) and CO (cost center accounting, product costing, CO-PA), and working knowledge of Material Ledger
• Degree in accounting, finance, business or information systems

PREFERRED

• Hands‑on experience with SAP SD pricing: condition technique, pricing procedures, condition records and price lists, and how pricing flows to billing and margin analysis
• CPA designation, or SAP S/4HANA Finance certification
• Experience in packaging, plastics, converting or process manufacturing
• Exposure to S/4HANA embedded analytics and Fiori apps
• RISE with SAP / private cloud experience
