Job summary

WSP in Canada is seeking a Senior Bridge Structural Engineer to lead design and inspection of bridges in Burlington, ON. You will collaborate with a provincial/national team to deliver complex bridge projects for federal, provincial and municipal clients.

The role requires a PE in Ontario with 5–10 years in structural design, knowledge of CHBDC/AREMA, and strong communication. This on-site position offers opportunities across Ontario with a respected engineering leader.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer registered in Ontario with 5-10 years of bridge experience.
  • Strong knowledge of bridge design and current Canadian codes CHBDC/AREMA.
  • Experience with inspection, assessment and rehabilitation of existing structures.
  • Experience with contract administration and construction supervision.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with teams.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out preliminary and detail design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other structures.
  • Prepare engineering drawings and tender documents; estimate quantities and costs.
  • Review shop drawings and supervise construction administration.
  • Conduct bridge inspections, assessments and reporting.
  • Provide technical guidance to staff, contractors and vendors.
  • Coordinate with multiple design teams across Ontario.

WSP is currently seeking a Senior Bridge Structural Engineer who has the interest and drive to join our team in Burlington, ON. Reporting to the Burlington Bridge Group Manager, this position will be responsible for the inspection, preliminary, and detail design of bridges and other civil structures for federal, provincial, municipal, and private clients. Our Bridge Team has a highly qualified staff experienced in bridge planning, inspection, evaluation, rehabilitation, new design and project administration, and collaborates with other teams based in Ontario, sharing work and knowledge. Our senior staff have published numerous technical papers on bridge design, rehabilitation and construction, and continue to be active on a range of technical and structural code committees. Your Impact
  • Carry out preliminary and detail design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other civil structures on assignments of moderate size, scope, diversity and/or complexity. Clients include all levels of government and private sector including heavy and light rail.
  • Prepare engineering drawings
  • Prepare form of tenders, quantity take-offs and construction cost estimates
  • Check designs and drawings
  • Prepare specifications and contract documents
  • Review shop drawings
  • Carry out contract administration and construction supervision
  • Prepare reports and proposals
  • Undertake bridge inspections, assessments, and reports
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to support staff, contractors, and/or vendors
  • Demonstrates sound written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical and application skills
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • University degree in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer registered in the province of Ontario with 5-10 years demonstrated experience in structural design and bridge engineering in Canada
  • Superior technical understanding, design abilities, and current on bridge technologies
  • Strong knowledge of structural analysis software used in bridge design
  • Specific areas of expertise required are in the planning, preliminary and detail design, and construction of highway and railway bridges of standard and complex geometry, culverts, and other transportation-related structures. A thorough knowledge of current Canadian design codes and standards is essential, including CHBDC and AREMA
  • Experience with inspection, assessment, recommendations, and rehabilitation of existing structures
  • Experience with contract administration and construction supervision
  • Experienced in report and proposal writing
  • Effective Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work on several projects at a time with multiple design teams
  • A committed team player with a willingness to help others and collaborate with team members
  • A valid driver's license

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $114 600 - $151 800

MB & ON: $104 500 - $143 900

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $103 500 - $137 400

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
