Job summary

Setpoint Building Automation in Vaughan, Ontario, is seeking a Senior Estimator to support the Sales team on pricing new construction and retrofit projects.

Acting as the commercial lead on every opportunity, you will be responsible for drawing and specification review, takeoffs, cost estimating, vendor and subcontractor pricing, proposal writing, bid/no-bid recommendations and negotiation through tender award.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of estimating or design experience in the BAS industry.
• Experience with Reliable Controls or equivalent product.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Proficiency with estimating software and project management tools.

Responsibilities

• Review mechanical, electrical and architectural drawings and specifications to establish scope, exclusions and risk.
• Produce detailed takeoffs and cost estimates.
• Develop and implement best practices, tools, and processes to optimize estimating efficiency and accuracy.
• Support the Sales and Projects teams to evaluate new opportunities.
• Present estimates and potential risks to the Sales team, providing insights and recommendations to support bid/no-bid decisions.
• Solicit vendor and subcontractor pricing, including electrical subcontract scope and the mechanical trade split.

From new installations, retrofits and preventive maintenance, Setpoint is a full-service BAS provider for our customers all across the GTA and surrounding areas.

Role Description

The BAS Senior Estimator is a full-time, hybrid role based in Vaughan, ON. As the Senior Estimator, you are responsible for supporting the Sales team on pricing various new construction and retrofit projects. Acting as the commercial lead on every opportunity, you will be responsible for, but not limited to: drawing and specification review, takeoffs, cost estimating, vendor and subcontractor pricing, proposal writing, bid/no-bid recommendations and negotiation through tender award.

As the Senior Estimator at Setpoint, you are granted significant autonomy and are ultimately responsible for the accuracy and competitiveness of every number we submit.

Key Responsibilities

• Review mechanical, electrical and architectural drawings and specifications to establish scope, exclusions and risk
• Produce detailed takeoffs and cost estimates
• Develop and implement best practices, tools, and processes to optimize estimating efficiency and accuracy
• Support the Sales and Projects teams to evaluate new opportunities
• Present estimates and potential risks to the Sales team, providing insights and recommendations to support bid/no-bid decisions
• Solicit vendor and subcontractor pricing, including electrical subcontract scope and the mechanical trade split

Qualifications

• 5+ years of estimating or design experience in the BAS industry
• Experience with Reliable Controls or equivalent product (Metasys, Desigo, EcoStruxure, Distech, ALC, etc.)
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate project scope, costs, and risks for Building Automation System estimates.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with owners, consultants, general contractors and trades
• Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and relevant project management tools.
• Experience pricing mechanical wiring is an asset but not required
• Some experience in field work is valuable but not required.

Compensation will be a combination of Base and performance-based incentive tied to bid results. The total on target compensation is $120,000 - $150,000.
