Job summary

Epiq is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend, AI Labs in Toronto to build and operate the services behind our AI-driven legal platform. You will work on asynchronous processing, data pipelines, the data access layer, and authentication/authorization to support scalable, multi-tenant systems.

You will collaborate with AI engineers, other backend engineers, product management, and security stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure systems.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional backend experience in production systems.
• Proficiency in Python with the ability to work primarily in Python.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and data modeling, migrations, and query optimization.
• Experience with asynchronous processing and message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka or similar).
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs and building scalable services.
• Familiarity with containerized deployment (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD.
• Experience with observability (metrics, logs, tracing) and on-call practices.
• Knowledge of security and authentication standards (OAuth2/OIDC/SAML).

Responsibilities

• Build and operate backend services and APIs for the AI-driven platform.
• Develop asynchronous processing pipelines with reliable retry and idempotency.
• Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas and migrations in production traffic.
• Implement authentication/authorization (OAuth2/OIDC/SAML) for multi-tenant environments.
• Collaborate with AI engineers and product teams to deliver scalable solutions.
• Instrument services with metrics, logs, and traces; participate in on-call rotation.
• Write automated tests and contribute to CI pipelines.
• Contribute to technical design documents and architectural reviews.
