Job summary

Venn is seeking an experienced backend-focused software engineer to join our fast-growing fintech team in Toronto. You will lead the development of financial services products from the ground up, ensure production readiness, and work closely with product, sales, and operations.

You will integrate with banking partners and third-party APIs, building scalable backend systems in Java and shipping features in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• Experience building, scaling, and supporting production-ready products.
• 5+ years of professional experience with Java.
• 6+ years of experience in backend development.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Leading the development of financial services products (transfers, cards, lending, etc.) from the ground up and ensuring that the systems are production-ready.
• Collaborate with other teams (product, sales, operations) to understand and solve our customers’ pain points.
• Integrating with banking partners and third‑party APIs to enable features like virtual cards, international money transfers, and accurately track financial data and make payments.
• Operating very independently and working directly with product owners, leveraging experience in shipping products in a fast‑paced environment like an early‑stage startup.

What You’ll Need

• Experience in building, scaling, and supporting production-ready products from scratch.
• 5+ years of professional experience with Java.
• 6+ years of experience in backend development.
• Quick learner with an ambitious and results‑driven personality.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
