Job summary

Shared Health at St. Boniface Hospital is seeking a Senior Autopsy Technical Assistant to oversee autopsy department operations in the SBH and HSC sites. You will supervise staff, ensure safety, and uphold quality standards in line with Accreditation and provincial guidelines.

The role requires leadership, attention to detail, and strong communication. Travel between facilities, standby/callback, and in-person work are expected within this 1.0 FTE position.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years recent related work experience required.
  • Supervisory experience an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions precisely with attention to detail.

Anticipated Shift: Days;Standby coverage as required, On Call

Work Arrangement: In Person

Daily Hours Worked: 7.75

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Charge Technologist(s) or designate, and the lead Pathologist, the Senior Autopsy Technical Assistant (ATA) will be responsible for the oversight and supervision of all autopsy-related staff and operations at both HSC and SBH Autopsy departments.

The incumbent will maintain a safe work environment in accordance with professional and provincial guidelines, and assure compliance with quality assurance policies and maintain standards put forth by Accreditation.

Functions are conducted in accordance with the Mission and Values of Shared Health Diagnostic Services, current policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.

Experience
  • Minimum three years recent related work experience required.
  • Supervisory experience an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Completed Grade 12 or equivalent, Manitoba Standards, is required.
  • University entrance (300 level) course work with emphasis in sciences required.
  • Two-year post-secondary education including anatomy and physiology or equivalent preferred.
  • Must participate in ongoing education and training in new techniques.
  • Courses in management/leadership preferred.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Certification with CCCPLS preferred.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions precisely with attention to detail.
  • Work effectively with lab operational leadership and staff pathologists.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Apply technical knowledge to troubleshooting and assessing of methods.
  • Organize and prioritize all tasks in the autopsy department.
  • Work under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • Proficient analytical skills.
  • Collaborate effectively with industry partners: OCME, Law Enforcement, Funeral Homes, Admitting, Transport, other.
  • Maintain confidentiality with all information entrusted to the position.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and applicable clinical applications.
Physical Requirements
  • Fast-paced, high stress environment with a heavy workload.
  • Risk for emotionally challenging work.
  • Must be aware of safe practices of heavy lifting.
  • Ability to lift and move bodies when required.
  • Travel to both facilities conducting autopsies is required.
  • Participating in standby and callback will be required.
  • Exposure to all hazards and dangers incumbent in working in a laboratory, and awareness of Job Hazard Assessments of the related tasks.
