Job summary

Stantec Buildings in Canada’s Atlantic region seeks an experienced Specifications Writer to join our award-winning team in Dartmouth, NS. You will produce project manuals with procurement requirements and coordinate architectural and consultant specifications across multiple projects.

The role requires strong knowledge of MasterFormat, UniFormat, MasterSpec, Chorus, and related documentation standards, plus excellent communication and team leadership.

Qualifications

• Post-Secondary Education with emphasis given to degrees in Architecture and related fields.
• 5+ years editing/writing architectural construction specifications.
• Experience with Commercial, Healthcare, Industrial, Institutional, and Public Works sectors.

Responsibilities

• Produce project manuals containing procurement and contracting requirements, general requirements, and technical specifications.
• Prepare project manuals consistent with project requirements.
• Assist in design criteria development using UniFormat.
• Prepare outline/tabular specifications using MasterFormat.
• Prepare full specifications with Chorus using MasterSpec, office, client, and other Masters.
• Read drawings to ensure coordinated project specifications.
• Conduct coordination spec charrettes with project teams.
• Coordinate architectural and consultant specifications.
• Maintain and expand specifier's digital library.
• Serve as technical resource for project teams.
• Maintain relations with product manufacturers' reps.
• Assist during project delivery with understanding specifications, evaluating options/substitutions, and resolving disputes.
• Train, mentor, and coach.
• Stay current with new products, systems, and technologies.
• Produce and maintain MasterSpec/e-SPECS database.
