Salary: $95,000 to $120,000+ Depending on Experience

About The Firm

Our client is a well established and growing architectural practice with multiple offices across Western Canada. Known for its collaborative approach, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering high quality projects, the firm works across a diverse range of sectors including multifamily residential, commercial, industrial, and community developments.

With a strong and growing portfolio of work throughout British Columbia, their Abbotsford office is seeking a Senior Architect or Senior Architectural Designer to join their leadership team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing design excellence with project leadership while working closely with clients, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams.

Why Join This Team?

This is an opportunity to join a highly collaborative practice where architects and designers are trusted to take ownership of their projects and play an active role in shaping both the design and delivery process.

The firm offers a diverse mix of project work, providing excellent variety while placing a strong emphasis on multifamily wood frame residential developments. You'll work alongside experienced professionals in an environment that values collaboration, mentorship, continuous learning, and long term career growth.

If you're looking for a role where you can lead projects, mentor others, strengthen client relationships, and continue developing professionally, this is an outstanding opportunity.

About The Role

Reporting to senior leadership, you'll be responsible for leading projects from the earliest planning stages through design development, permitting, construction documentation, and construction administration.

You will oversee project planning, coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams, manage project schedules and budgets, and serve as a primary point of contact for clients throughout the life of each project. Success in this role requires someone who is equally comfortable leading design discussions, solving technical challenges, and managing the day to day delivery of complex architectural projects.

While the firm delivers projects across a broad range of sectors, experience leading multifamily wood frame residential developments is essential, as this represents a significant portion of the current workload.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead architectural projects from concept through construction completion
  • Develop project work plans, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams throughout all phases of project delivery
  • Lead design development while ensuring projects remain technically coordinated and buildable
  • Oversee permit submissions and coordinate with municipalities and Authorities Having Jurisdiction
  • Review and coordinate construction documentation to maintain quality and consistency
  • Conduct site visits, field reviews, and support construction administration activities
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and municipal authorities
  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, deliverables, and overall project performance
  • Mentor and support junior architects, designers, and technical staff
Qualifications
  • Registered Architect or experienced Senior Architectural Designer with formal architectural education
  • 8+ years of architectural experience within Canada
  • Strong experience leading multifamily wood frame residential projects is essential
  • Additional experience across commercial, industrial, institutional, or mixed use projects is considered a strong asset
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, consultant coordination, and client management
  • Strong understanding of the BC Building Code, municipal approval processes, and permitting requirements
  • Experience coordinating structural, mechanical, electrical, civil, landscape, and other consulting disciplines
  • Strong proficiency with Autodesk Revit, with working knowledge of AutoCAD considered an asset
  • Knowledge of BC Energy Step Code and sustainable building practices is considered an asset
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem solving skills

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits
  • Banked overtime
  • Strong work life balance
  • Professional development and ongoing mentorship
  • Diverse portfolio of multifamily residential, commercial, and industrial projects
  • Opportunity to lead projects from concept through construction
