Job description

The Senior Developer will be part of our Life Edge Digital Delivery team and contribute to Wawanesa’s success by designing, documenting, developing, testing, and supporting system solutions to meet business stakeholder requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and enjoy working in an agile scrum team that facilitates rapid design, development, and implementation of application changes. They should embody a passion for continuous improvement and test-driven development, with experience in establishing best practices, mentoring, process improvement, and technical proficiency with React.

Our Life Edge area is beginning a large business and technology transformation, maturing our current delivery processes and practices.

Job Responsibilities :

1. Design, develop, and test software.
2. Prepare technical specifications from requirements.
3. Maintain the operation of business systems and applications.
4. Assist solution analysts with clarifying business request details.
5. Mentor other developers.
6. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve application incidents.
7. Participate in planning activities.
8. Estimate and track progress of assigned work.
9. Create and update relevant documentation.
10. Follow and contribute to improving established practices, processes, and guidelines.
11. Keep current with relevant technologies.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Post-secondary degree or diploma in software development or equivalent experience.
2. Four years of practical experience in application development, building software using current programming languages and techniques, and working with relational database systems and structured query languages, or equivalent knowledge/experience.
3. Effective communication skills, capable of conveying information clearly and concisely tailored to the audience.
4. Experience developing user interfaces with React, APIs, secure web development practices, and utilizing AWS components.
5. Proficiency with VS Code, JIRA, Confluence, Git, CodeCommit, and GitHub.
6. Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to recognize issues and develop solutions.
7. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, supporting fellow team members.
8. Strong organizational skills with the ability to self-manage and adapt to changing priorities.
9. Responsive communication via Instant Messaging platforms.
10. Willingness to learn and apply new knowledge to emerging situations.
11. Assets include experience with AWS Well Architected Framework, POSIX/Linux/Unix systems, modernizing custom frameworks, and delivering demos.
12. Familiarity with Windows, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, NoSQL databases.
13. Relevant technology certifications are an asset.
14. Knowledge of the Insurance industry is an asset.
