A career as a Senior Analyst in the team of Special Loans at National Bank offers you the opportunity to act as a credit expert. This role allows you to have a positive impact on the organization by increasing your knowledge in finance structuring, negotiating complex agreements, implementing innovative strategies to support clients in difficulty, and understanding the legislative framework for business restructuring and insolvency.

Your role :

• Support Senior Managers working on complex restructuring files by acting as a credit expert. Prepare and submit credit applications.
• Participate actively in all stages of complex transactions, from initial client communication to analysis, negotiation, implementation, documentation, renewal, and exit strategies for sizeable credit facilities across various industries.
• Analyze very complex, sensitive credit facilities with diligence, creativity, and agility to meet clients' needs and comply with the Bank's risk management criteria.
• Negotiate terms and conditions with clients, external advisors, and Credit teams.
• Manage special projects under the supervision of team managers.
• Contribute to developing and improving portfolio tracking and management systems.
• Collaborate with Quality Control and Internal Audit teams to enhance processes continually.

The Special Loans team specializes in restructuring large commercial accounts in high-risk situations. They manage files for businesses under the protection of The Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (C-36) or those filing notices of intention under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA). The team also collaborates with various business lines on joint management mandates for companies facing financial difficulties that do not require immediate file transfer, working closely with Treasury, National Bank Financial, and Commercial Banking, including all specialized financing product teams.

This role offers opportunities in risk management and commercial financing, providing exposure to a broad range of industries and business sizes.

This position can be located in Toronto or Calgary.

Basic requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field with 5-7 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in commercial credit.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills, with the ability to influence.
• Proficiency in financial analysis.
• Understanding of financial and legal issues related to restructuring or insolvency situations.
