Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Analyst, Operational Due Diligence (ODD) to join our Finance team. This is a newly created position within our organization and will report to the Director of Enterprise & Risk Management. The Senior Analyst is responsible for ensuring that all investments are subject to initial and ongoing due diligence and risk assessments.

The Senior Analyst will also support the execution of the risk management function, including risk assessments, controls evaluation and governance review. If you have solid experience in operational due diligence and want to continue to grow your career in this space, we want to hear from you!

What will I do?

  • Collaborate with Finance and the Investment team and lead the design, implementation, and continuous enhancement of a comprehensive, risk-based Operational Due Diligence (ODD) framework aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Conduct ODD reviews for both existing and prospective external fund managers across hedge funds, public markets, and private funds.
  • Engage with third-party ODD consultants and critically evaluate their reports.
  • Manage the end-to-end documentation process, including the solicitation, organization, and review of offering documents, due diligence questionnaires (DDQs), policies, and audited financial and operational data.
  • Proactively identify operational deficiencies or potential risks during ODD assessments.
  • Collaborate with Risk Owners to support enterprise risk management activities, including risk identification, control development, business continuity planning, and the preparation of risk assessments and governance documentation.
  • Develop and execute a robust internal control testing program to assess all risks captured in the organizational risk register.
  • Deliver actionable insights and recommendations to internal stakeholders in Risk, Finance, and Investments through comprehensive written reports and verbal presentations.
  • Document and escalate findings in accordance with governance standards.
  • Lead initiatives aimed at enhancing ODD-related processes and controls.
  • Work cross-functionally with key stakeholders to embed best-in-class practices in investment operations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for client and external investment manager inquiries related to operational due diligence, fostering open communication and ensuring timely resolution of issues.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements and evolving industry standards.
  • Promote organizational compliance through regular monitoring and internal knowledge-sharing.
  • Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with internal business partners and external fund managers, ensuring alignment on ODD objectives and expectations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally to conduct on-site operational due diligence meetings as required.

What will help me be successful?

Skills & Qualifications

  • University degree in a recognized technical, vocational or academic program, such as a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent direct work experience.
  • Obtained or working towards a CPA, or a similar professional designation with a focus on assurance, preferred.
  • CFA, CAIA, FRM is an asset.
  • 5+ years of working experience in the public accounting, pension, consulting, or asset management industries.
  • Investment operations, middle office, and / or fund accounting experience are strong assets.
  • A working knowledge of financial instruments and investments.
  • Prior experience generating clear and concise reports for diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience analyzing large datasets, extracting meaningful insights, and identifying relevant trends.
  • Experience with Enterprise Risk Management practices and internal control evaluations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (i.e., Excel, Word), PowerPoint, VBA, Python, SQL and Tableau, and similar office tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Embrace a collaborative approach, actively sharing knowledge within a team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated relationship-building skills to build and maintain productive relationships.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement, auditing and building standard and scalable processes.
  • Self-driven for continuous learning and staying updated on industry best practices and emerging trends in risk management and the pension industry.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), presenting and recommending direction and solutions.
  • Attention to detail, to ensure quality and accurate outputs, which meet the investment team’s policies, practices and standards, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity and ability to act with discretion to maintain confidentiality.
