As a Sr Analyst, Investment Operations you will support the External Portfolio Management (EPM) Investment teams with transaction management, asset servicing, investment accounting, reporting and valuations. You will also assist with the day-to-day evaluation, accounting, and monitoring of relevant investment portfolios, covering all asset classes and security types in Hedge Funds, Co-Investments, and Managed Account Platform (MAP).

Team Summary:

The External Funds Operations team, a part of Funds Operations within the Private Investment Operations, is tasked with a range of responsibilities and projects that facilitate the overall operations and management of the EPM portfolio. The team comprises nine members, each bringing a diverse set of backgrounds and skills.

Accountabilities:

  • Partner with colleagues from the Investment Departments, Finance, Legal, and Risk to assist in investment closings through documentation review, system setups, transaction entries and settlements.
  • Support and manage lifecycle of transactions and deal pipeline and asset servicing; ensure investments are accurately always represented, track upcoming activity, reconcile records, and process activities.
  • Provide ongoing operational support including the preparation and review of management base and incentive fee accruals, capital calls and redemptions, and invoice payments.
  • Prepare or review monthly NAV calculations for external pooled funds and analyze the difference between estimate and final values, as well market value and PnL changes.
  • Contribute to providing data for financial statements, note disclosures and management reports and ensure accuracy and completeness, as well as providing valuable insights and commentary.
  • Assist in processing complex investments with the ability to understand impact on trading, portfolio construction, reporting and performance.
  • Build new or improve existing relationships with external counterparts including Custodian Bank, Administrators, Auditors, Board of Directors, etc. Monitor the quality of the services provided and escalate or provide feedback as necessary. Drive requests and initiatives with service providers that improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Identify and promptly escalate irregular activities or issues and assist management in determining corrective action.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining policies and procedures.
  • Continually strive for operational excellence; seek ways to streamline processes and create operational efficiencies. Maintain an ongoing effective working relationship with internal investment staff and external asset managers to ensure issues are discussed and resolved, operational and financial controls and reporting requirements are met.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma in related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Professional designations such as a CBV, CFA, CPA are considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, financial and management accounting skills will be necessary to perform this role.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and a high degree of professionalism combined with the ability to readily adapt to rapidly changing investment business and technology environments.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfortable learning new systems.
