Job summary

Scotiabank, Toronto, is seeking a Senior Analyst in Group Treasury Product Control to deliver accurate P&L and accounting support across Treasury portfolios. You will champion control standards, perform P&L analysis, and support month-end close with a proactive, strategic approach.

The role requires 1–3 years in Product Control or related areas, strong Excel, and knowledge of fixed income products. CPA/CFA desirable; overtime during month-end/quarter-end may be required.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in Product Control or related area such as Middle Office, Finance, Risk Management, or Operations.
  • Solid knowledge of fixed income products including ABS, MBS, CMO, Covered Bonds and CMB, as well as derivatives and equity products.
  • Understanding of Treasury functions with familiarity in accounting treatments such as Amortized Cost, FVOCI, FVTPL, and hedge accounting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication to interact with Front Office stakeholders.
  • Self-driven and proactive in a fast-paced environment.
  • P&L reporting, validation and risk attribution experience is a plus.
  • Experience with VBA, SQL, and/or Python is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and valuation methodologies across assigned products and portfolios.
  • Deliver timely daily P&L and Balance Sheet reporting for the Treasury portfolio.
  • Perform detailed P&L analysis, attribution and validation; resolve discrepancies with stakeholders.
  • Reconcile daily P&L to General Ledger and sub-ledgers; address exceptions promptly.
  • Support month-end close, balance sheet substantiation, and management reporting.
  • Prepare IPV, valuation reserves, and fair value adjustments per policies.
  • Support internal financial and regulatory reporting as required.
  • Collaborate with partners to implement new products with strong governance.

The Senior Analyst – Group Treasury Product Control is a key member of the Product Control team, responsible for delivering timely and accurate P&L and accounting execution support across multiple Group Treasury portfolios or strategies. The Senior Analyst will be responsible for championing high standards of control, analytical insight, and continuous improvement through a proactive and strategic approach.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

  • Ensure compliance with approved accounting policies and valuation methodologies by maintaining accurate accounting treatment across assigned products and portfolios.
  • Deliver timely and accurate daily Profit & Loss (P&L) and Balance Sheet reporting for the assigned Treasury portfolio.
  • Perform detailed P&L analysis, attribution, and validation to ensure reporting integrity, identifying and resolving discrepancies in partnership with key stakeholders.
  • Reconcile daily P&L results to the General Ledger and supporting sub-ledgers, escalating and addressing exceptions in a timely manner.
  • Manage balance sheet substantiation and support month-end close activities, including account sign-offs, reconciliations, and management reporting.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze Independent Price Verification (IPV), valuation reserves, and fair value adjustments in accordance with Risk Management standards and internal policies.
  • Support internal financial reporting and regulatory reporting requirements as required.
  • Collaborate with business partners, management, and cross-functional stakeholders to facilitate new product implementations and business initiatives while ensuring a strong control and governance framework.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • 1–3 years of experience in Product Control or a related area such as Middle Office, Finance, Risk Management, or Operations, supporting trading desks or banking portfolios.
  • Solid knowledge of fixed income products, including securitized instruments such as Asset-Backed Securities (ABS), Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS), Collateralized Mortgage Obligations (CMO), Covered Bonds, and Canada Mortgage Bonds (CMB), as well as derivatives and equity products.
  • Understanding of Treasury functions, including funding and hedging activities, with familiarity in related accounting treatments such as Amortized Cost, Fair Value Through Other Comprehensive Income (FVOCI), Fair Value Through Profit or Loss (FVTPL), and hedge accounting methodologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, complemented by advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and confidently interact with Front Office stakeholders.
  • Self-driven and highly accountable professional with a proactive mindset and the ability to succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Experience in P&L reporting, validation, and risk attribution, including the ability to explain key performance and risk drivers, is considered a strong asset.
  • Working knowledge of VBA, SQL, and/or Python is an asset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline is required.
  • Professional accounting or finance designation, such as CPA (preferred) or CFA, is highly desirable.
  • Must be available to work overtime during month-end and quarter-end periods, as required to support business needs.
