British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI), one of Canada’s largest institutional investors, is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Senior Analyst/Associate, Performance & Analytics to join our Finance Department in Victoria, BC. Reporting to the Manager, Asset Class Performance, this role is a key contributor to the Performance team, responsible for developing and maintaining performance methodologies, benchmarks, and attribution models that support the delivery of accurate , high-quality analytics and reporting for multi-billion-dollar public market investment pools. The successful candidate will bring strong technical and financial acumen, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for data integrity and performance insights in a dynamic investment environment.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITHThe Finance department is part of BCI Operations and is responsible for investment and corporate accounting, valuations, as well as financial statements and financial reporting to our clients. The team also leads BCI’s budgeting process, tax structuring and tax compliance, finance client engagement, finance operations, procurement, and investment performance and analytics. Working with our internal business partners, auditors and external advisors, the Finance department strives to be a trusted advisor to our internal and external clients by providing timely , accurate , and relevant financial information and analysis.
Performance & Analytics serves as an authoritative source of performance information, playing a crucial role in supporting BCI's investment strategy. T he branch aligns its teams with the end customers they support, including Total Fund Performance, Asset Class Performance, Client Performance, and Performance Analytics & Support. This alignment ensures that all stakeholders receive a focused, one-stop source of independent ly measure d portfolio and benchmark performance, in-depth performance attribution, insightful performance analysis, and comprehensive reporting. Additionally, the branch contributes to compensation evaluation, further reinforcing BCI's commitment to delivering exceptional value to its clients and exceeding clients’ expectations.
THE OPPORTUNITYReporting to the Manager, Asset Class Performance, the Senior Analyst /Associate, Performance & Analytics is a subject matter expert who provides support to the Performance team by developing and maintaining performance methodologies, calculations, benchmarks, and attribution s to provide timely, accurate and high-quality performance analytics and reports for multi-billion-dollar public market investment pools . The Senior Analyst/Associate will produce regular performance reporting deliverables , interpret attribution analysis, assemble ad-hoc analytics, investigat e data discrepancies, develo p measures and reports, and ensur e the availability and accuracy of information provided to various stakeholders .
WHAT YOU BRING Must have3 -5 years institutional investment experience, preferably in performance measurement
A relevant university degree (finance, accounting, math, computer science)
An understanding of asset class behaviour, capital markets, and complex institutional investment portfolios (i.e. knowledge of derivatives/overlay, absolute return strategies, alternative investments, private markets) and industry standard performance measurement and benchmarking practices
Advanced Microsoft Office S uite skills , in particular Excel and SQL Server (or related data management experience such as other SQL languages querying relational databases, data modelling and manipulation)
Ability to multi-task and deliver under pressure, with a high degree of accuracy
Demonstrated problem solving skills , with the ability to identify issues, investigate root causes, and recommend effective solutions
A s trong analytical background , capable of interpreting complex data to generate meaningful insights
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Has a history of being a self-starter with a natural curiosity, combining technical skills with finance/accounting knowledge and motivated by learning
C ompletion or pursuit of CFA, CIPM, or similar designation ( an equivalent combination of education, training , and experience may be considered)
Knowledge of industry leading best practices related to the performance measurement and reporting of equity & fixed income assets, derivatives, and benchmarks, preferably in the Canadian Pension environment
Skilled in leveraging Python , SQL , and VBA to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency
Prior experience with B loomberg, Sylvan or SimCorp Dimension
Produce s timely and highly accurate performance report s and presentations for internal investment teams and other stakeholders
Monitor s the accuracy and integrity of the underlying data for performance calculations
Suggest s and implement s operational process improvements
Prepare s written analysis explaining issues or anomalies in performance results for internal clients and audit purposes
Respond s to ad-hoc requests related to data from other BCI departments and clients on a timely basis
Supports Performance system upgrades and implementations
Participates in Business Planning, change management projects and corporate initiatives as needed
Validates and explains performance results for internal investment teams
Investigates and resolves return anomalies through effective collaboration with colleagues on the Performance team and across functions
Supports audit, internal control, and process procedure documentation
This role is based in our downtown Victoria , BC office. BCI is an in-person, collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely one day per week.
BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.
The annualized base salary range for th e Senior Analyst role is CAD $90,000 to $109,000. The range for the Associate role is $103,000 to $124,000.
The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.
We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.
Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
