Job summary

As a Senior Applied AI/ML Scientist on the Compass team, you will be the science and technical lead for this product — driving agent quality through data, evaluation, and modeling, while shipping product features end-to-end with high velocity.

This is a deeply hands‑on individual contributor role: no direct reports, keyboard first.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production ML/AI experience with hands-on ownership.
• Shipped agentic/LLM-powered features in production products.
• Strong applied ML/data science foundation with data-driven decisions.
• Track record shipping across backend, data, and frontend stacks.
• AI-native practices and tooling are part of day-to-day work.
• Architecturally aware with simple, scalable design choices.
• Autonomous, resourceful, with good judgment to escalate when needed.
• Fluent engineering mind for sound architecture decisions.

Responsibilities

• Own the science and technical north star for Compass agentic products.
• Ship end-to-end retailer‑assistant features across the FLARE stack.
• Translate bets into sequenced, de-risked tactical plans.
• Define eval/experiment-driven development and metrics.
• Make pragmatic engineering choices that evolve with scale.
• Collaborate with engineers on architecture and cross‑team tradeoffs.
• Raise team judgment through prototypes, analyses, and reviews.
• Operate with high autonomy and sound engineering judgment.
