Job summary

eBay is seeking an Applied Researcher to advance agentic AI across our global marketplace. You will work at the intersection of LLMs, retrieval systems, recommender systems, and agent architectures to turn research ideas into robust, production systems used by millions of buyers and sellers.

You will collaborate with engineers and product teams to design, prototype, and evaluate AI agents that operate reliably in real-world commerce workflows, driving improvements in discovery, listing creation,

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or MS in CS/AI/ML/Stats or related field.
• Strong ML/DL background including LLMs, NLP and retrieval.
• Experience with large-scale datasets and distributed processing.

Responsibilities

• Design agentic AI systems with multi-step reasoning, planning, and tool use across the marketplace.
• Develop and evaluate LLM-based systems for commerce tasks (discovery, listing, pricing, support).
• Advance RAG and knowledge-grounded AI for structured marketplace data.
• Create robust evaluation frameworks: offline, synthetic tasks, human, and online experiments.
• Collaborate with engineering to ship production-ready research prototypes at scale.
• Analyze large datasets to improve relevance, personalization, and decision support.
• Share findings via publications, patents, and presentations where appropriate.
