Job summary

Sun Life Financial is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to design, develop, deploy, and operate AI/ML/GAN technologies on AWS. You will work across Bedrock, RAG pipelines, and agent-based workflows to deliver enterprise-grade solutions.

Collaboration with architects, data engineers, and security partners is essential. The role requires 7+ years in software engineering with 5+ years on AWS, strong Python, RESTful APIs, and experience in production AI deployments.

Qualifications

7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years building and operating solutions on AWS.
Hands-on experience delivering AI, ML, or Generative AI solutions in production environments.
Strong Python development skills and experience designing, testing, and integrating RESTful APIs and event-driven services.
Practical experience with Amazon Bedrock and core AWS application services (Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, S3, DynamoDB, and Aurora/RDS).
Experience building RAG solutions (document ingestion, embeddings, retrieval, grounding, evaluation).
Experience developing AI agents or tool-using workflows with orchestration, memory, and human approvals.
Knowledge of AWS security, IAM, KMS, secrets management, logging, monitoring, and incident response.
Experience with CI/CD, IaC (Terraform/AWS CDK/CFN), and Docker; familiarity with ECS or EKS.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, deploy, and operate AI/ML/Generative AI solutions on AWS.
Build production applications using foundation models via Bedrock (prompt engineering, RAG, tool use, agents, workflows).
Design secure RAG pipelines (ingestion, chunking, embeddings, indexing, retrieval, grounding, governance).
Engineer agentic solutions with controlled tool access, orchestration, memory, error handling, approvals, auditable execution.
Build scalable serverless and containerized services with Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, ECS/EKS.
Implement data/persistence patterns with S3, DynamoDB, Aurora/RDS, Glue; enforce security controls (IAM, KMS).
Create CI/CD pipelines and IaC components; maintain design artifacts and runbooks.
Provide post-production support, performance optimization, and cost controls; mentor juniors.
