Job summary

MNP, a leading Canadian accounting, tax and business advisory firm, is seeking a Senior Accounting Technician for Northeastern Ontario. You will support assurance and accounting engagements for mid-market clients and provide tailored financial information to help clients make informed decisions.

The role involves compiling and reviewing financial data, preparing remittances and payroll, and assisting with month-end close while collaborating with client engagement teams.

Qualifications

• Accounting certificate or degree in commerce/business administration.
• 3 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Experience with T4s and T5s; knowledge of personal and corporate tax.
• Working knowledge of accounting processes and principles.
• Experience with accounting and tax software.
• English written and verbal; French an asset.

Responsibilities

• Assist with compilation, review, audit, bookkeeping and tax engagements.
• Prepare government remittances/filings, AR, expenses, AP and payroll.
• Set up client files, assist with budgets and administrative planning.
• Perform the month-end and quarter-end close process.
• Reconcile GL accounts including cash, bank reconciliations, prepaid expenses, AR, AP, liabilities.
• Identify issues and discuss resolutions with managers or engagement partners.

Responsibilities

• Assist with compilation, review, audit, bookkeeping and tax engagements
• Prepare and maintain government remittances/filings, accounts receivable, expenses, accounts payable and payroll transactions
• Set-up client files, assist with the completion of budgets and complete administrative planning
• Perform the month-end and quarter-end close process
• Maintain, monitor and reconcile GL accounts including cash, bank reconciliations, prepaid expenses, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accrued liabilities, intercompany and point of sale (POS)/system uploads
• Identify issues and errors, investigate discrepancies and discuss with managers or engagement partners to develop resolutions
• Communicate with the government regarding information requests, assessments and installments
• Work collaboratively with the client engagement team
• Liaise with clients on administrative matters and provide functional advice to other team members
• Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary

Skills and Experience

• Accounting certificate or bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration (accounting or finance major is preferred)
• 3 years of relevant accounting experience
• Experience preparing T4s and T5s and knowledge of personal and corporate tax
• Working knowledge of accounting processes and principles
• Experience working with accounting and tax software
• Written and verbal English language skills, with French considered an asset
