Job summary

MNP in Sudbury, ON is seeking an Accountant for Assurance and Accounting to join our Northeastern Ontario team. You’ll conduct compilation, review, audit, bookkeeping and tax engagements, and prepare client reports with confidence and accuracy.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's in commerce or business with accounting focus, are enrolled in the CPA PEP, and have 1–2 years of relevant experience. French is an asset; travel may be required as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration (accounting/finance major preferred).
• Enrolled in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
• 1–2 years of relevant accounting experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct compilation, review, audit, bookkeeping and tax engagements.
• Set up files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses; manage multiple files and conduct inventory counts.
• Perform accounts receivable, accounts payable, asset acquisitions/dispositions and payroll walkthroughs with clients.
• Summarize clients’ financial status by preparing balance sheets, P&L statements, and related reports.
• Assess audit evidence for expenses, revenues, assets, payables and prepaid expenses.
• Review and correct discrepancies in financial entries, documents and reports.
• Establish charts of accounts and postings entries to accounts.
• Prepare correspondence, reports, client summaries and presentations of engagement findings.
• Collaborate with client engagement team and build relationships with client contacts.
• Flexibility to travel as necessary.

• Assess appropriateness of audit evidence for expenses, revenues, capital asset additions, accounts payable, accounts receivable and prepaid expenses
• Review, investigate and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries, documents and reports
• Establish charts of accounts and prepare entries for posting to accounts
• Prepare correspondence, technical reports, client summaries and presentations outlining engagement findings, facts and highlights
• Collaborate with client engagement team and build relationships with client contacts
• Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration (accounting or finance major is preferred)
• Enrolled in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP)
• 1 to 2 years of relevant accounting experience
• Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
• Experience working with accounting and tax software is preferred
• Written and verbal English language skills, with French considered an asset

The annual range for this position is: $45,000 to $65,000.
