Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking a Senior Accountant in Vaughan, ON, to lead full-cycle accounting within a dynamic shared services environment. You will oversee general ledger activities, period closes, intercompany reconciliations, and payments, while driving process improvements and AI-enabled optimization.

This role also entails guiding and developing the accounting team to deliver accurate reporting on schedule.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in full-cycle accounting, including general ledger, period close, and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Perform and oversee full-cycle accounting activities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant accounting standards.
• Approve and execute payments and banking transactions in a timely and controlled manner.
• Act as a subject matter expert for shared service center accounting and accounts payable processes, providing guidance and support to the team and stakeholders.
• Prepare and review account reconciliations, including bank and balance sheet reconciliations, to ensure accounts are accurate and properly supported.
• Prepare and post journal entries and support all period close activities to meet reporting deadlines.
• Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations to ensure proper elimination and accurate reporting.
• Oversee and execute payments and bank transactions, ensuring adherence to internal controls and procedures.
• Perform master data activities related to accounting and accounts payable, maintaining data integrity and consistency.
• Support financial reporting, audits, and regulatory requirements by preparing schedules, documentation, and analyses as needed.
• Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement, and present insights to relevant stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials to support consistent and efficient operations.
• Act as a subject matter expert for shared service center accounting processes and support knowledge transfer and training across the organization, including onboarding and training of new hires.
• Lead and contribute to process improvement initiatives, system optimization, and the leveraging of AI tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
• Collaborate with ERP implementation and transition project teams to ensure smooth integration of accounting and accounts payable processes.
• Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and training to team members to build capability and ensure high-quality deliverables.
• Execute and supervise the team to meet shared service center service deliverables in accordance with established service level agreements (SLAs) and key performance indicators (KPIs).
