Job Description
The Senior Accountant, Property Accounting is responsible for full cycle accounting operations of multifamily properties, applying consistent accounting principles and procedures to record and analyze financial information, maintain the integrity of the financial records, provide transparent and accurate financial information to various stakeholders, assist senior property accountants in the preparation of complete and timely financial reports, and ensure adherence to appropriate accounting controls and policies. The Senior Accountant, Property Accounting demonstrates overall knowledge of financial reporting and accounting analysis and assists in the preparation and review of financial reporting packages for both internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform full-cycle accounting duties for assigned property portfolio such as accruals, adjustments, amortizations, reclasses, and gross potential rent/vacancy loss analysis.
- Review monthly property financials to assess accuracy/completeness while collaborating with Asset and Property management to provide meaningful variance analysis explanations.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and schedules for proper amortization/depreciation, accruals, true-ups, etc.
- Coordinate and articulately communicate with internal and external customers, including, but not limited to property managers, maintenance staff, management, auditors, tax consultants, etc.
- Assist with the preparation and review of monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Analyze current and historical financial results, perform variance analysis of key metrics, identify trends and recommend actions.
- Actively monitor financial statement deliverables and communicate to stakeholders.
- Participate on special projects and perform other tasks as assigned.
- Assist with audit requests, including general audit inquiries, preparation of schedules/reports, support data and schedules, and testing of internal controls.
- Analyze property-related transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, compliance, and reasonableness.
- Participate in research of accounting transactions and financial reporting such as budget-to-actual or month-over-month variance analysis.
- Assist with system and process improvements to enhance financial reporting and accounting efficiency.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and training documentation.
- Support management with special research projects and presentations, as required.

Minimum Requirements:
- Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and international financial reporting standards.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel; proficient in other Microsoft Office programs.
Preferred Attributes:
- 3+ years property management/real estate experience would be a plus.
- Knowledge of Yardi & D365.
- CPA designation or in progress.
