This requires superior technical accounting knowledge, analytical strength, attention to detail, business partnership skills, and the ability to meet challenging deadlines.

Scope of the position

The Senior Accountant Financial is a critical position for the G&A team. The incumbent reports to the Manager, G&A and will be responsible for the preparation of complex corporate financial statements, providing financial analysis to the Senior Management team, supporting G&A and Project budget and forecast activities, and assisting with year-end audits. This requires superior technical accounting knowledge, analytical strength, attention to detail, business partnership skills, and the ability to meet challenging deadlines.

Key Activities

• Producing complex General & Administrative financial reporting packages in accordance with set procedures on a monthly basis for senior management.
• Preparation of project cost financials related to IT Infrastructure and Software Development Projects, monitoring costs throughout the month.
• Analysis and reporting of project cost financials; providing insights and recommendations.
• Providing financial analysis, review, and support to management and internal departments regarding concerns, reporting issues, and variance explanations.
• Assisting with financial support to corporate departments and managing financial risk related to G&A expenses.
• Undertaking technical accounting research regarding IFRS treatment of IT Project costs.
• Preparing, completing, and reviewing monthly working papers and reconciliations, summarizing risks, issues, or areas of concern.
• Preparing and providing consolidated analysis for quarterly reviews and audits.
• Communicating professionally with Senior Management, finance team members, other departments, and external parties.
• Assisting in the development and review of G&A annual budgets, working with senior management and strategic planning teams to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Assisting in monthly and quarterly forecasting, collaborating with strategic planning.
• Training and supporting departments to understand G&A expenses, promoting accountability.
• Identifying process improvements within G&A, designing new processes to enhance efficiency.
• Handling special projects as assigned by the Senior Accounting Manager, G&A.

Qualifications

Experience :

• Minimum five (5) years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in senior housing, real estate, hospitality, or healthcare sectors.
• Experience with Canadian public companies and reporting requirements.
• Advanced knowledge of financial reporting and complex accounting issues.

Education :

• University degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.

Skills & Abilities :

• Strong IFRS knowledge.
• Excellent financial, analytical, and attention to detail skills.
• Proficiency with Excel, ERP systems, Yardi, Hyperion, and MS Office.
• Effective communication skills at all organizational levels.
• Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Adaptability to change and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently and in teams.
