Audit & Accounting Manager

Responsibilities
  • Lead Audit Engagements – Manage and supervise all aspects of audit engagements for private company clients, from planning through completion, including operations in fast‑paced industries.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Review – Stay abreast of the latest accounting and auditing standards, regulations, and reporting requirements; interpret and apply these standards during audits.
  • Risk Assessment and Audit Planning – Conduct thorough risk assessments and develop comprehensive audit plans that address key risk areas.
  • Financial Statement Analysis – Analyze financial statements to assess accuracy, completeness, and adherence to accounting principles; identify and address potential errors or irregularities.
  • Team Management and Development – Lead and mentor audit teams, providing guidance, feedback, and support throughout the audit process.
  • Client Communication – Build strong relationships with key stakeholders of private company clients; communicate audit findings, insights, and recommendations clearly.
  • Quality Assurance – Ensure all audit engagements adhere to the firm’s quality control standards, best practices, and ethical guidelines.
  • WIP Management – Oversee the management of Work in Progress (WIP) for all audit engagements; monitor and analyze WIP reports to ensure timely completion and efficient resource allocation.
  • Budget Monitoring – Develop and manage budgets for private company audit engagements; monitor actual versus budgeted expenses and address variances.
  • Continuous Improvement – Contribute to the enhancement of the firm’s audit methodologies, tools, and processes; propose innovative ideas to improve audit services.
  • Professional Development – Stay updated on emerging trends in auditing practices, accounting pronouncements, and industry issues.
  • Confidentiality – Comply with all confidentiality policies of the firm and applicable regulatory authorities.
Qualifications
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA).
  • 1–2 years of management experience at a progressive public accounting firm, focusing on private company clients from start‑up to mature.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing audit engagements for private companies.
  • Thorough ASPE knowledge and application of relevant professional standards, regulations, and corporate governance requirements.
  • Familiarity with Canadian tax.
  • The ability to provide value‑added service to clients.
  • Strong understanding of a client‑focused environment, including related deadlines and ability to meet them.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and people‑development skills.
  • Sound judgment regarding confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Advanced computer knowledge, including Caseware, Taxprep or Profile and Excel.
