Responsibilities:
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, serving as a primary point of contact and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services
- Lead planning meetings, prepare budgets, and execute on engagements with minimal support from Manager
- Review previous year’s file to understand client profile; drafting questions for client that may assist with file preparation and obtaining missing information/documentation
- Prepare new client files, ensuring client adherence to applicable standards
- Independently plan and execute audit and review engagements for clients including inventory counts, financial statements disclosures, and corporate tax returns
- Provide leadership and technical guidance to junior team members on engagements
- Identify complexities and/or risks in files and communicate them early in the workflow
- Manage various deadlines for files including bank reporting and tax filing requirements
- Prepare journal entries as required
- Review general ledger accounts for reasonability
- Interact with tax authorities regarding discrepancies
- Identify and research complex accounting issues
- Effectively manage multiple projects and monitor deadlines and budgets
- Proactively communicate with Managers/Partners on client engagements
- Arrange and present data using Excel, Word, CaseWare/CaseView
- Follow all policies and procedures of the Firm
Education and Experience:
Minimum of 3-5+ years experience working in an accounting role within a public accounting firm
Previous mentorship of Team Members (junior team members or co-ops) is an asset
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong technical knowledge and experience with complex accounting and compliance
- Excellent knowledge of Canadian Accounting Standards (ASPE, IFRS, ASNPO, ASPP) and Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS)
- Thorough understanding of business concepts and government regulations
- Experience leading small audit and review engagements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Financial acumen, with the ability to manage budgets and monitor performance
- Proficient in MS Office and accounting software (e.g., CaseWare, TaxPrep)
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning
- CPA or enrolled in CPA program
