Job summary

STRIVE Recruitment Inc. is partnering with a Vancouver-based real estate group to recruit an experienced Senior Accountant.

The role covers development accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management and commercial property accounting, with ownership of the function. The successful candidate will work directly with senior leadership, manage day-to-day accounting, support audits, and drive process improvements across active projects and assets.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in real estate development or property accounting.
• Strong full-cycle accounting and financial reporting experience.
• CPA designation or active progression toward completion preferred.
• Experience with project cash flow, budgeting, forecasting and job costing.
• Experience with commercial/property accounting is an asset.
• Strong Excel skills; real estate software experience is an asset.
• Excellent communication with senior leadership; proactive and hands-on.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial statements, journal entries, accruals and schedules.
• Manage project cash flows, budgets, forecasts and variance analysis.
• Prepare construction progress claims and development draw requests.
• Support lender financing packages and ongoing financial reporting.
• Manage AP/AR, bank reconciliations, and tax filings.
• Prepare management reporting and portfolio consolidations.
• Assist with year-end audit and tax processes.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across active development projects.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting and systems.
• Support additional projects as the business grows.

THE CLIENT

STRIVE Recruitment is partnered with a growing real estate organisation based in Vancouver with an established portfolio and active development pipeline.

They are looking to add an experienced Senior Accountant to their team in a broad, hands-on position spanning development accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management and commercial real estate.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who wants to take ownership of a broad finance function, work closely with senior leadership and grow into a management position as the organisation and finance team continue to expand.

THE ROLE

Reporting directly to senior finance leadership, the Senior Accountant will take ownership of accounting and financial reporting across active development projects and income-producing assets.

This is a hands-on role combining development/project accounting, financial reporting and analysis with full-cycle accounting responsibilities. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating independently, managing competing priorities and remaining involved in the day-to-day accounting function.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare monthly financial statements, journal entries, accruals and supporting schedules
• Manage project cash flows, budgets, forecasts and variance analysis
• Prepare construction progress claims and development draw requests
• Support lender financing packages and ongoing financial reporting
• Manage AP/AR activities, bank reconciliations and applicable tax filings
• Prepare management reporting and portfolio consolidations
• Support commercial property accounting, including leases, rent rolls and tenant billings
• Assist with year-end audit and tax processes
• Partner with internal stakeholders across active development projects
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting and systems
• Support additional projects and ad-hoc requirements as the business continues to grow

REQUIREMENTS

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within real estate development, construction or property accounting
• Strong full-cycle accounting and financial reporting experience
• CPA designation or active progression toward completion strongly preferredDevelopment, construction or project accounting experience strongly preferred
• Experience with project cash flow, budgeting, forecasting, draws and/or job costing considered highly valuable
• Commercial/property accounting exposure is considered an asset
• Strong candidates from public practice with meaningful real estate client exposure will also be considered
• Strong Excel skills; Yardi or other real estate accounting system experience is an asset
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with senior leadership
• Proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to take ownership across both higher-level and day-to-day accounting responsibilities

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• $90,000 - $110,000 base salary
• 10-15% discretionary bonus
