THE SENIOR ACCOUNTANT OPPOURTUNITY
Canadian Turner Construction (Vancouver) is seeking a full-time Senior Accountant to join our head office team. This position is Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, and reports to the Accounting Manager. In this role, you will provide financial services and support to profit centers and projects, while identifying and communicating potential profitability issues or risks to management. You will work closely with project teams to lead financial administration and fiscal management, ensuring that all profit centers and project stakeholders are aligned with financial best practices and goals.
As a Senior Accountant, you will:
- Create a supportive environment to develop high performing finance team, provide training opportunities and engage in mentoring relationships.
- Lead accountants and other related team members, provide timely performance feedback and contribute to performance appraisals during the annual performance cycle, utilizing talent management systems.
- Oversee and implement procedures to ensure client contractual requirements are met in regard to billing and accounts receivables, conduct contract analysis to determine billing deadlines, payments terms, billable and non-reimbursable expenses, and agreements for insurance and fee billings along with approved billing rates.
- Regularly audit client billing and project ledger, to ensure contract requirements meet accounting and company policy.
- Oversee management of accounts payable for vendor invoices and to ensure accounts are up to date.
- Participate in monthly close process, adhere to company calendar.
- Assist and comply with all internal and external audit requests.
- Set-up, coordinate, and evaluate financial administration, general conditions budgeting, and certain tax reporting for project.
- Be responsible for managing process for assets, insurance and tax requirements.
- Prepare cash position reports, assess any potential risks or profitability, communicate to management and project teams.
- Coordinate preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports for projects.
- Coordinate and communicate with customers and vendors in connection with accounts payable and accounts receivable issues.
- Prepare and/or review miscellaneous studies, analysis and reconciliations, including bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Lead and/or participate in project financial closeout process.
- Apply knowledge of and comply with local and Canadian tax requirements, and process transactions accordingly.
- Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Is this the right role for you:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field, and 5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education or experience.
- Construction industry experience preferred.
- Supervisory/management of small team preferred.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and company policies, able to educate and enforce policies.
- Ability to read and understand financial reports.
- Analytic ability to review and assess financial data, interpret trends, and recognize inconsistencies.
- Apply critical thinking to manage through complex decisions and judgments.
- Understand accounting implications of various contract terms.
- Display actions related to profitability and risk management and effectively communicates risk management issues.
- Exercise independent judgment and discretion with ability to identify problems and initiate corrective action
- Apply innovation to offer and implement suggestions to improve overall operations.
- Ability to manage competing activities, requests, and short-cycle deadlines simultaneously
- Able to observe performance and effectively provide performance feedback.
- Must have high proficiency in financial system applications, SAP and Textura experience, advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Self-motivated, adaptable and flexible to operate with minimal direction and little or no supervision while working in complex and changing environment.
- Lead by example and set standards for performance and behavior; act with integrity and professionalism, strong dedication to teamwork.
- Professional written and verbal communication skills.
- High degree of organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.

The annual base salary range for this position may be CA$95,000 to CA$130,000, depending on experience and fit. Physical Demands & Work Environment:
The job requires climbing stairs, using hoists and ladders, and navigating construction areas. Employees will frequently sit, climb, stoop, kneel, use tools, and work with computers. Vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. The role involves mobility, occasional travel, and work at various sites. Employees must lift up to 10 pounds regularly and 25 pounds occasionally. Work environments include construction sites with exposure to hazards like mechanical parts, heights, fumes, and noise. Employees must follow safety policies, with accommodations available for disabilities.
