Senior Accountant

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Reporting to the Controller and supporting multiple locations across Canada, we’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team.
  • This role plays a key part in the company’s financial operations, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining compliance with ASPE, and supporting various accounting functions.
  • The Senior Accountant will collaborate with different departments to optimize financial processes and contribute to strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and inventory accounting.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare financial statements in accordance with ASPE and internal reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Perform reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including inventory, fixed assets, and accruals.
  • Assist in cash flow management, including forecasting, bank reconciliations, and treasury functions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze financial performance, identify trends, and support business decisions.
  • Monitor key financial metrics, including profitability, margins, and expenses, to ensure alignment with budgets and forecasts.
  • Support internal and external audits, including audit schedules and responding to inquiries.
  • Assist in developing and improving accounting processes and procedures to enhance efficiency.
  • Mentor and support junior accounting staff, fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Perform other related accounting and administrative duties as assigned by the Controller.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation (or in progress) preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, ideally in retail, cannabis, liquor, or consumer goods industries.
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks (or similar software).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.
