About The Senior Accountant Role

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to play a foundational role in shaping Float's financial reporting. This is a unique opportunity for an accounting professional to work at a company building tools that are transforming their day-to-day work. We are looking for someone that has a deep passion for everything accounting.

As The Senior Accountant At Float

  • You’ll be responsible for building, executing and streamlining accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, payroll and financial reporting
  • You’ll coordinate and execute an effective, efficient and timely month-end close process, including ownership of the general ledger, preparation of variance analysis and other relevant reporting insights
  • You’ll be responsible for developing and monitoring proper controls and reporting over financial operations
  • You’ll answering accounting inquiries in cross-functional teams
  • You’ll develop processes for new product lines and financial reporting asks
  • You’ll be responsible for completion of tax and and audit compliance work
  • You’ll own all government compliance submissions (T4s, EHT, ITCs, SR&ED, etc.)

A Few Must Have Experiences

  • 3-4 years of experience in a Finance or Accounting role at a fast growing tech company, with a focus on accounting and financial reporting with Canadian ASPE accounting standards
  • CPA or demonstrated interest in obtaining the designation
  • Robust analytical, problem-solving, and process-improvement skills, coupled with proficiency in Google Sheets and Excel, including large data set manipulation
  • Strong attention to detail and can be relied upon to provide thorough, well-reasoned and accurate results
  • Able to work with a high degree of self-direction, along with the capability to thrive in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to demonstrate teamwork skills in a growing team

You’ll Be Great In This Role If

  • You’re an owner. You love producing reporting packages with your stamp of ownership on it. You take great satisfaction in answering questions from stakeholders that want to understand the details to a greater degree. You can even anticipate what the questions might be and prepare answers prior to being asked.
  • You understand the business context. You'll be more effective if you understand not just how to book the journal entry, but also why you're doing it - i.e., how will this impact the financial reporting and drive decisions.
  • You’re comfortable with a fast-paced environment. Float is a dynamic environment and things can change quickly. You should be flexible and able to adapt to changes as they occur.
  • You have spectacular attention to detail. You take pride in being thorough and accurate. You’re a stickler for detail and rarely miss important information required to complete a task.
  • You ruthlessly prioritize. You will have multiple responsibilities and projects. Being able to effectively manage your workload and meet deadlines is crucial.
  • You have the nice-to-haves. You have experience with our internal tools: Metabase, Float, Wagepoint, and Netsuite. You have worked on complex accounting topics like consolidation, foreign currency transactions and translations and deferred revenue.

This Role Won’t Be a Fit If

  • You’re not extremely detail oriented
  • You don’t like working in a fast paced environment
  • You are not open to a hybrid role
  • You aren’t a self-starter and don’t like to work independently
  • You are not organized and efficient
  • You don’t like change and adapting to new ways of doing things
  • You lack patience for iterative work
  • You’re not keen on learning new things
  • You don’t have strong stakeholder management skills
  • You don’t like regular feedback on your work

Don’t meet every single requirement? If you’re excited about this role, and you strongly align with our values but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be the right candidate for this, or other future positions.
