Job summary

Options Consulting Solutions is seeking a Senior Accountant in Ontario to oversee the company’s accounting functions, focusing on full-cycle accounting, project financial management, and process improvement.

You will lead monthly and year-end closes, manage job costing and progress billing, and collaborate with project teams to deliver accurate financial reporting for decision-makers. This role requires strong Excel and ERP skills with ERP experience and CPA assets willkommen.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of progressive full-cycle accounting experience.
• Experience with job costing, WIP, progress billing and holdbacks is a strong asset.
• Experience in construction or project-based environments.
• Experience with government remittances is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounting including general ledger, AP/AR, reconciliations, accruals and journal entries.
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes and financial reporting.
• Oversee project accounting, job costing, progress billing, holdbacks and WIP reporting.
• Prepare budgets, forecasts, cash flow and project financial reports for management.
• Prepare government remittances (HST, EHT, WSIB) and maintain internal controls.
• Drive process improvements and support payroll backup.
• Provide guidance to accounting staff and collaborate with project teams and external stakeholders.

The Job!

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Senior Accountant will play a key role in overseeing the company’s accounting operations, with a focus on full-cycle accounting, project financial management, reporting, and process improvement.

• Manage full-cycle accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, accruals, and journal entries.
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including financial reporting, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
• Oversee project accounting, including job costing, progress billing, holdbacks, work-in-progress reporting, and project profitability.
• Prepare and monitor budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and project financial reports to support management decisions.
• Prepare and submit required government remittances, including HST, EHT, and WSIB.
• Maintain accurate financial records, internal controls, and documentation for external accountants and year-end reporting.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and reporting efficiency.
• Provide guidance and support to the accounting team, including backup for payroll and other finance-related activities.

What you bring to the job

The ideal candidate is someone with experience with financial reporting, month-end/year-end close, reconciliations, and government remittances. You also come with:

• Minimum of five years of progressive full-cycle accounting experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA designation or enrolment in the CPA program is considered an asset.
• Experience in construction or a project-based environment, particularly with job costing, WIP, progress billing, and holdbacks, is a strong asset.
• ERP system experience and strong Microsoft Excel skills are required.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines independently.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams, management, and external stakeholders.
• Experience supporting or guiding junior accounting staff is an asset.
• Bilingualism is considered an asset.
