Job summary

Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia is seeking a Senior Accountant for a full-time, office-based role in Oliver, BC. You will support the finance department, manage day-to-day accounting, and assist with month-end and year-end processes under the Corporate Controller.

You will ensure timely, accurate financial information for leadership and operations, while upholding PSAB standards and internal controls.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in Sage 300, Microsoft Excel, and related financial systems.
  • Strong understanding of PSAB standards, fund accounting, and municipal/First Nation finance principles.
  • Experience in budget development, grant management, and regulatory reporting.
  • Familiarity with First Nations governance, funding structures, and reporting requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong analytical and organizational abilities.
  • Hands‑on experience with inventory accounting, standard costing, and physical inventory counts.

Responsibilities

  • Support governance operations of the Osoyoos Indian Band with the Corporate Controller and accounting staff.
  • Review financial records, prepare adjusting entries, and deliver timely, accurate reports.
  • Maintain filing systems and ensure documents are properly prepared, signed and stored.
  • Update policies and procedures as required.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, PSAB, ISO 9001, and internal controls.
  • Utilize Sage 300 across modules including payroll, AR/AP and general ledger.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Review EFT deposits, payroll accruals, benefits, pension admin, WCB, and reconciliations.
  • Refine budgets and variance analyses; prepare monthly financial reports and GST reporting.
  • Provide training and support to field staff to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant for a full‑time, office-based role in Oliver, in supporting the finance department and reporting to the Corporate Controller. In this position, you will manage day‑to‑day accounting activities, perform reconciliations, review and refine budgets, and support month‑end and year‑end processes. You will ensure the timely delivery of accurate financial information that leadership and operational teams rely on for informed decision‑making.

The Osoyoos Indian Band is a multi‑faced organization that is known for its business activities and also the First Nation governance sector that provides all governmental services in Education and in Health.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with the Corporate Controller and accounting clerks to support business and Governance Operations of the OIB.
  • Review financial records, prepare adjusting entries when required, and deliver accurate, relevant financial reports to the Corporate Controller and OIBDC/OIB managers in a timely manner.
  • Organize and maintain both electronic and hard‑copy filing systems, ensuring documents are properly prepared, signed, and stored. Must understand file content and maintain awareness of key individuals, timelines, and organizational events that may affect documentation.
  • Document updates to policies and procedures as required.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, PSAB, ISO 9001, and internal financial controls.
  • Utilize Sage 300 (ACCPAC) across modules including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, bank services, intelligence reporting and financial reporting.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office with advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Utilize Xyntax, including modules such as payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Review EFT deposits, payroll accruals, benefits and pension administration, WCB reporting, and PEIR reconciliations.
  • Review and refine budgets, variance reports, monthly financial reports to management, GST reporting and other analysis as needed; and
  • Provide training and support to field staff to improve reporting accuracy, efficiency, and job satisfaction.
Qualifications (Required)
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
  • Proficiency in Sage 300, Microsoft Excel, and related financial systems
  • Strong understanding of PSAB standards, fund accounting, and municipal/First Nation finance principles
  • Experience in budget development, grant management, and regulatory reporting
  • Familiarity with First Nations governance, funding structures, and reporting requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong analytical and organizational abilities
  • Hands‑on experience with inventory accounting, standard costing, and physical inventory counts
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with non‑finance teams and support operational decision‑making
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • CPA designation (completed or in progress)
  • Knowledge of First Nations accounting practices considered an asset
  • Working knowledge with PSAB (Public Sector Accounting Standards)
