A well-established and respected public accounting firm located on the Sunshine Coast is seeking a
Senior Accountant to join their collaborative and client-focused team. This is a unique opportunity to grow your career in a dynamic environment while enjoying the lifestyle benefits of coastal living.
As a key member of the firm, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for preparing year-end financial statements and tax returns, mentoring junior staff, and liaising directly with clients. This is an ideal role for a technically strong accountant with strong interpersonal skills who values work-life balance and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare year-end financial statements and working papers for audits, reviews, and compilations
- Develop and update review/compilation plans for ongoing clients
- Prepare and review corporate, personal, trust, and not-for-profit tax returns
- Oversee and file personal tax returns and supervise the e-filing process
- Conduct fieldwork for review engagements
- Supervise and mentor junior team members, reviewing their work and offering training as needed
- Meet with clients to present financials, address inquiries, and provide strategic advice
- Provide basic bookkeeping support, including payroll, government remittances (GST, PST, WCB), and related documentation
- Assist clients with accounting software and workflow optimization
- Prepare and lead internal training sessions
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Completion of a professional accounting program (CPA designation is preferred but not required)
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in public accounting
- Strong knowledge of Canadian tax (corporate and personal) and financial reporting standards
- Previous supervisory experience with strong planning, communication, and mentoring skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in software such as QuickBooks, CaseWare, Profile, Excel, and other industry-standard tools
- Strong understanding of CPA Canada standards and the Income Tax Act
