About the Opportunity

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in Gibson Energy’s external and internal financial reporting processes. The role supports quarterly and annual reporting, works closely with external auditors, and partners with internal stakeholders across Finance, FP&A, Tax, and Operations. This hands‑on role offers end‑to‑end exposure to Gibson's external reporting, from consolidation through the financial statements, Management's Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) and Audit Committee materials. Beyond preparing the reporting, you will be expected to go deep where it matters: resolving complex IFRS questions, fixing root causes and shaping how our reporting processes and systems work.

  • - Competitive compensation and annual incentive opportunities that reward your contributions and performance.
  • - Generous vacation and flex time that support work-life balance and gives you time to recharge
  • - Build long-term wealth through our Pension Plan and Employee Share Ownership Program
  • - Employer-paid health and dental benefits from day one
  • - Industry‑leading mental health coverage for you and your family
  • - Flexible Spending Account to support your unique wellness needs
  • - Family Building Benefit supporting fertility, adoption, and surrogacy journeys
What You'll Do
  • - Own assigned process improvements from root cause analysis through to validation, including simplifying handoffs, automating recurring reconciliations and reporting, and documenting related controls.
  • - Research complex IFRS accounting issues, significant agreements, non‑routine transactions and new accounting standards; prepare technical memoranda and translate approved conclusions into accounting entries and financial statement disclosures.
  • - Build and maintain Workiva documents, linked schedules and validation checks, and collaborate with IT and Internal Controls to test system, mapping and reporting changes.
  • - Prepare quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements, accompanying notes and supporting reconciliations in accordance with IFRS, and coordinate external auditor requests through resolution.
  • - Prepare MD&A and Finance's contributions to the Annual Information Form (AIF), Management Information Circular and earnings materials, and coordinate Disclosure Committee and Audit Committee reviews.
  • - Complete consolidation activities, including intercompany eliminations and foreign currency translation; account for equity, stock‑based compensation and debt; and investigate and explain financial variances.
  • - Prepare and review monthly financial reporting packages and legal entity financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • - Lead assigned components of the month‑end and quarter‑end close processes, including preparation and review of complex journal entries, account reconciliations and financial analysis.
  • - Support the implementation of new accounting standards and policies, ensuring consistent application across the organization.
  • - Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR), including supporting control documentation, testing and remediation activities.
  • - Collaborate with FP&A, Tax, Treasury and Operations to ensure financial reporting accurately reflects business activities, operational results and significant transactions.
Who You Are
  • - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation required.
  • - 5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including financial reporting in a publicly traded environment.
  • - Demonstrated curiosity, initiative and a continuous improvement mindset, with a willingness to challenge processes, solve problems and collaborate across the business.
  • - Strong IFRS expertise, including technical accounting research, memoranda, financial statements and disclosures.
  • - Experience working with external auditors and managing complex reporting requirements.
  • - Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems, consolidation tools and financial reporting processes.
  • - Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and sound professional judgment, with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
  • - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions.
  • - Experience with Workiva, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power Query or Power BI is an asset.
  • - Experience with equity, stock‑based compensation, debt, joint ventures or multi‑entity reporting is an asset.
  • - Experience in energy, infrastructure or asset‑intensive industries, or a background in public accounting (Big 4 or national firm), is preferred.
