Job summary

Education World Ltd in Tyne Valley is seeking a passionate Support Assistant to join a dedicated Pupil Referral Unit. You will work Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm, supporting students with social, emotional and mental health needs and helping deliver tailored lessons.

You will build trusting relationships, collaborate with teachers and external agencies, and contribute to a safe, inclusive learning environment while fostering resilience and positive engagement in education.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a PRU team.
• Resilience, patience, and a calm approach to managing challenging behaviour.
• Previous experience with children or young people is desirable.
• Experience with SEMH or behavioural needs is highly desirable.
• A Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject is desirable.
• Current enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

Responsibilities

• Support teaching staff in delivering engaging and effective lessons tailored to individual student needs.
• Provide 1:1 or small group support to students who require additional assistance.
• Support students with SEN, SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs.
• Assist with classroom and behaviour management strategies, including de-escalation techniques.
• Supervise students throughout the school day, ensuring their safety and wellbeing.
• Help create a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students and encourage engagement in education.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to meet student needs.
